3. What do you know about DAFI?

-It is a Scholarship programme sponsored from Germany

-Established in 1992

-It enables refugees to pursue higher education

-It operates in Kakuma, Ifo, and Hagadera Camps and also in Urban Centres like Nairobi

-Offers both degree and diploma study opportunities

4. Why did you choose DAFI?

- It is the only scholarship

programme in Kakuma that


offers degree programme

- It has helped a dozen refugees and it continues to help more people.

- With the support of DAFI, I can achieve my dreams.

- My hopes were pegged on applying for DAFI even when I was in High school.

5. Which course do you want to pursue?

- I want to pursue Bachelor of Laws.

6. Why Law? Why did you choose that course?

- It has been my dream career choice

- Although people say that Law is a calling, I'm passionate about it

- Law shapes the society and I'm a man of the people

- where I come from is a country crippled due to lack of laws.

- I want to be part of the change in the society.

7. What do you know about the course you want to pursue?

- (a). Law is a Means of solving disputes between persons.

Disputes are inevitable in the society and law is the only means of seeking redress without using
violence. Commercial disputes are solved by contract law.

- (b). Protect Liberties and Rights in the Bill of Rights.

There are inherent rights of human beings that are protected by law like life, liberty/freedom and
property.

- (c). Set standards of behaviour.


Law prescribes the standards of behaviours that are acceptable in the society and those that can be
punished bcoz they hurt others.

- (D). Forming & running a government and Maintain Peace and Order.

The force of the law is the reason why the police is deployed by the state government to maintain peace
and order

8. What is the importance of your course to both the community and yourself?

- (a). Law Defines the society:::The facts that it revolves around human life and interpersonal and
societal relationships is amazing.

- (b). Good Governance:::::The interaction of law and governance and the contours been judiciary,
parliament and executive is intriguing.

- (c). Great Career Opportunities::::There is a great package in doing law: being advocate, paralegal, Dr.
Laws and lecturer, name it...

- (D). In the society I come from, you don't know where the law starts and where it ends. We are the

- I'm persistent, unique and flexible

- I'm hard working and can overcome obstacles

- Time management, commitment and diligence

11. What are some of the challenges you think you might face at the university?

- adaptation to different environs-I have known mostly the camp life

- adjusting to new teaching methods

- learning to study independently

- varied lifestyle choices may be overwhelming

- living alone at the university

- loneliness

- MONEY MANAGEMENT

12. Does your grade reflect your ability?

- No!

- Bcoz a Grade is basically reflective of personal commitment, time management, diligence and how you
process information but not on your ability. It shows that you take your studies seriously which is
different from ability.

Ability encompasses many other varied skills including problem solving, leadership etc. You can have a
skill that is not confined by time like exams. Thus, ability is not well captured by a grade. Nevertheless, it
does contribute though minimally.

13. What Volunteer social work have you done in the camp?

- I have been a tutor during holidays for students in class 8 and form 4

- I have been a Sunday school teacher in our church.

- help the youth through counselling and organising sports activities during holidays.

14. How is education so important in your life?

- education transform people and people transform the society

- It is through education that information technology has made the world a global village
- It exposes people to the best practices and cultures around the world and it condemns the bad ones I.e
FGM

- education produces informed citizenry: enhancing good governance
