Handwriting analysis
Disclaimer:
Handwriting analysis and graphology are based on theories that are not
scientifically proven. Interpretations are subjective and should not replace
professional psychological evaluation. Use findings as supplementary
information, not as definitive conclusions about an individual’s character or
mental state.
How it works?
💡 Explanation:
This explanation of handwriting simply means that there are very
small neuro-muscular movements that are the same for every
person who has a particular personality trait. The movements are so
tiny that they have to be graphically frozen to be identified.
Handwriting is an example of this graphically frozen movement.
Analyzing and interpreting that data is the science of neuro-
analysis. It takes handwriting analysis and the neuro-sciences one
step farther.
In this PDF, we will explore 5 key topics, but keep in
mind that there are many more to discover on this
subject.

4. baseline
5. sizing
slants:
Slant reveals how much we express our real feelings to others, not the intensity
of our feelings, but our readiness to share them. It can also show truthfulness.
In graphology, we often don't separate feeling and emotion.
People often equate feelings with emotions, but scientifically, feelings are just a
part of emotions. Emotions involve bodily changes like breathing and pulse, and
mental excitement, driving behavior. Intense emotions can disrupt thinking and
prompt ungraded actions. Emotions guide perception, thought, and action.
Emotions arise from significant personal changes. Hot emotions are unstable,
intense, partial, and brief. They prompt immediate resource mobilization.
Emotions focus on specific people and situations, with a quick rise and slow
decline, usually within half a second to four seconds.
The main parts of emotion are intentionality (cognition, evaluation, motivation)
and feeling. For example, encountering a thief at night involves fear (feeling),
recognizing the thief (cognition), evaluating the threat (evaluation), and wanting
to flee (motivation).
Thus, feeling is a key part of emotion, but they are not the same. In common
use, we treat them as one. Slant reveals one's feeling or emotion.

FA WRITER
The person who writes with an FA slant is emotionally repressed. This is an
unusual slant. This person will likely be a social outcast with few friends. They
have withdrawn into themselves, are reserved, and only show their feelings
during great anger, extreme passion, or tremendous stress. This person is an
introvert and makes decisions based on logic, so they are rarely impulsive.
They don't see the need to express their emotions and probably view it as a
waste of time. They have a hard time relating to extreme extroverts, but may be
attracted to them. Many people do not understand this writer and find it difficult
to know how they really feel. They enjoy being alone and probably prefer
working alone. These people often enjoy working with their hands.
Introvert
Introversion in handwriting shows as a leftward slant and/or small writing.
How introverted someone is depends on their fears like self-consciousness
and lack of confidence.
If the writing slants left of the 90° angle, the person is emotionally
withdrawn and not expressive.
True introversion is withdrawing into oneself.
Small writing may mean someone seems quiet and reserved but can be
expressive one-on-one if the slant is different.
A leftward slant with large handwriting can mean someone seems social
but rarely shows emotions.
Handwriting analysis 4
Classic introverts have both small and leftward writing.
AB WRITER
The AB writer is more common than the FA writer. He is similar to the FA writer
but is more outgoing and sociable. He makes decisions based on judgment and
is guided by his head, not his heart. He is calm and usually doesn't show his
emotions. Some may see him as unemotional, but he does have feelings; he
just doesn't need to show them. He enjoys being alone.
This writer shows emotions only in extreme situations like anger, passion, or
stress. When someone upsets him, he remembers it and will eventually let them
know they've gone too far. If he gets very angry, he won't regret it later. He
makes decisions based on facts and without emotional influence. He stays
calm in emergencies and handles situations where others might panic with a
composed attitude.
This writer works better when he has space and time alone. He doesn't like
being constantly surrounded by people. In a relationship, he shows his love
through actions rather than words. He believes his partner should already know
he loves them without needing to say it, unless he thinks it's best to express it.
He is not swayed by emotional appeals. If someone is selling something to him,
they need to present just the facts. He won't be moved by emotional stories
about others. He handles emergencies calmly and always asks, "Is this best for
me?"
One well-known AB writer is Ayn Rand, who introduced her "objectivism
philosophy" in her books Atlas Shrugged and The Fountainhead. The quotes in
Atlas Shrugged nicely summarize her approach to life, which matches the basic
philosophy of most AB writers.
BC WRITER
Handwriting analysis 5
This writer mainly relies on judgment but is a bit emotional and sympathetic. He
is a somewhat emotional AB writer. He will respond a little to emotional appeals
but won't be convinced by them. You need to appeal to his logic and judgment,
as that's how he makes decisions. To understand a BC writer, think of an AB
writer but with a bit more emotional expressiveness.
CD WRITER
This writer is quite friendly. He feels for others and gets moved by sad stories.
He can be kind, friendly, loving, and thoughtful. He understands how others
feel.
This writer has mood swings. Sometimes he's happy, sometimes he's sad. He
gets along with both introverts and extroverts because he's in the middle.
Handwriting analysis 6
Psychologists call him an ambivert. He can connect with both types of people
but not with those who are too extreme.
To convince him to buy something, a sad story can help. He empathizes with
others but won't buy anything impractical or illogical. He shows his emotions
openly and might even tear up when hearing a sad story.
Politically and emotionally, he stays in the middle. He considers both sides of
an issue, waits, and decides when he must. He doesn't support extreme ideas
and usually avoids extreme positions on any issue.
DE WRITER
This writer is very emotional, experiencing highs and lows intensely. He feels
emotions strongly and can quickly shift from happiness to burnout. These
mood swings can be disturbing for him and others. Sometimes, he feels he
can't be productive, but after some alone time, he bounces back.
He connects easily with others' problems because he feels situations deeply. If
he's around someone depressed, he might also start feeling down. He often
acts impulsively, even if he had a detailed plan. His actions are guided by his
emotions at the moment.
This writer needs affection and enjoys being touched and told he is loved daily.
He likes being the center of attention and retelling stories that got him noticed
before. He could be a good actor or salesperson because he relates well to
people and likes expressing himself.
Handwriting analysis 7
He works best in jobs that involve interacting with people, rather than working
alone or on an assembly line.
E+ WRITER
This writer leans heavily on emotions. He acts on his feelings all the time and
can be very impulsive. He may quickly show anger or sadness and often says
things he later regrets. During emergencies, he might become hysterical.
He tends to hide his true feelings and can be like an actor. This is ironic
because he needs to express himself. He does this to protect himself from
getting hurt. Many people might not understand him. He gets emotionally tired
quickly and has frequent mood swings, going from happy to sad rapidly.
He is very affectionate and romantic. He responds quickly to praise and needs
attention, making him hard to ignore. His deep emotions make him prone to
tears when hearing a sad story or releasing tension.
His biggest issue is being too emotional and forgetting to be logical. His
impulsive actions can get him into trouble, and people often misunderstand
him. This can be emotionally draining for those around him. He is either very
active or completely still.
In a relationship, he always relies on his feelings to make decisions. If you
prefer predictable, stable, and logical relationships, this emotional writer might
be too much for you.

2. writing pressure
Pressure shows:
1. Mental energy we use in life
2. Mental illness
3. Physical illness
4. Intense feelings
5. Frustration
6. Determination or passivity
7. Nervousness
In graphology, pressure means how much force we use while writing. It shows
our mental energy, appetites, and desires. It changes and is not fixed.
Some people write with light pressure, others with heavy pressure. Most people
use medium pressure, which means they feel average intensity. We may use
light pressure for some words and heavy pressure for others, showing our
feelings about those words.
Extreme pressure, either too heavy or too light, is linked to mental illness.
Extremes can be negative. Heavy pressure can lead to frustration, while light
pressure shows a lack of mental intensity for life's activities.
Here are examples of heavy and light pressures.
01. HEAVY PRESSURE
People who write heavily are often heavy in other ways too. They are
determined, confident, strong-willed, and dynamic, trying to control others.
Heavy writing is linked to strong feelings. These people often feel angry,
anxious, tense, and forceful. They are active, energetic, lively, alert, and
sometimes aggressive.
Handwriting analysis 9
02. TOO HEAVY PRESSURE
Pressure that is too heavy shows deep frustration that can lead to violence.
Sometimes, people crossing the ‘t’ or marking mistakes almost tear the paper.
Graphologists have found an interesting trait linked to very heavy pressure at
the start and end of strokes. This is called ‘clubbed stroking.’ It indicates the
potential for cruelty. This matches the idea of pressure. When the pressure is
too heavy and the strokes are strong, it naturally suggests the potential for
cruelty.
03. LIGHT PRESSURE
When you are sick, your handwriting may be light. Otherwise, it shows you are
calm, gentle, and passive. You prefer following over leading.
04. PRESSURE THAT IS TOO LIGHT
We have already learned about light pressure. Now, let's talk about very light
pressure. It shows that you might be too shy, submissive, or lacking in
willpower and energy. You might not have a strong will. In simple terms, you are
spineless. It's like a weak handshake.
05. UNEVEN PRESSURE
A worrier writes with uneven pressure. Their writing has jerks and starts. This
uneven pressure shows nervousness. When worried or nervous, our writing is
not even and smooth; instead, it has uneven pressure.
3. THINKING PATTERNS
CUMULATIVE THINKERS:
Handwriting analysis 10
The slowest type of thinker is the cumulative thinker. This is shown in the
curves of the letters m and n. The more curved and round these letters are, the
longer it takes for the writer to learn. However, once this person learns
something, they remember it much longer than faster thinkers.
When someone writes letters like m, n, h, or r in a slow, round way, they are
usually gentle and slow too. This person is a cumulative and often creative
thinker. They like to have all the facts before making a decision. They think like
a mason, stacking fact upon fact. Their conclusion will not be complete until the
last fact is in place.
This writer learns faster through demonstration than through written or verbal
directions. They also learn easier by doing it themselves rather than watching
someone else. Once they have learned and understood something, they don’t
forget it..
This is a methodical thinker, so she is able to build things and come up
with new ideas based on previously learned material. In an argument, she
often loses to rapid–thinking people, but thirty minutes later she thinks
about what she should have said. This reflects the speed of her thoughts,
not the quality or ability to think intelligently.
She may think and work at a slower pace than other people. Therefore,
she is better suited for a job that stresses consistency, repetition, and
dependability in nature, where emphasis is not on speed. Many good
artists have this type of mind. When an artist paints a portrait he has to
put one layer of paint on top of another, waiting for the previous layer to
dry. It is a slow, meticulous process that most fast thinkers do not have
Handwriting analysis 11
the patience to do. The same principle goes for many musicians.
Learning to play an instrument requires slow, meticulous, cumulative
practice. Once the basics are learned, he can build on it. Many musicians
learn to play instruments and read music when they are young and think

INVESTIGATIVE THINKER
The person with investigative handwriting characteristics thinks rapidly.
She has a desire to satisfy her curiosity. She is able to grasp situations
and new ideas without difficulty.
This writer can take ten good ideas and quickly formulate them into one
idea, which works. She often relies on the investigation of other people
and doesn’t take the time to dig deeply for herself. She is a quick thinker
and will know rapidly if the information she has been given can be used.
Although she is often considered brilliant, her ideas are not usually her
own. Rather, they are a synthesis of information she has received and
processed. Her talent is to take someone else’s ideas and research, then
mentally evaluate their feasibility. This trait is common among
Handwriting analysis 12
This person is a quick thinker whether these points go high or low.
However, if the tops of the letters go above the top of the middle zone, he
investigates because he likes to see for himself instead of just taking
someone else’s word on it. He is usually digging into something because
of his curiosity. In short, his mind is sharp and he thirsts for knowledge.
COMPREHENSIVE THINKER
If you take the investigative trait one step farther, you get the
comprehensive thinker. These people instantly size up situations, making
instant decisions at a faster rate than even the investigative writer. Many
people with this type of mind are geniuses, thus they may be seen as
highly intelligent because they are ‘street smart’, as opposed to just ‘book
smart.’
This handwriting sample shows a comprehensive thinker. Many
comprehensive thinkers write their m’s, n’s, h’s and even r’s with a sharp
steeple point that is much sharper than the v-shape of the simply
investigative. This is typical of most comprehensive thinkers.
The comprehensive thinker is often irritated by slow talkers or slow
thinkers. When she drives a car, she gets irritated by slow drivers in the
fast lane. She quickly becomes bored when being taught on the level of
the slowest student in class. She may be on page five when the rest of the
class is on page three. She thinks and evaluates circumstances very
rapidly. She is curious and very active. In school she might have been a
troublemaker because she thought so much faster than the other kids and
she finished her work first, thus having plenty of time on her hands to
make trouble!
It may seem as if comprehensive thinkers make decisions without even
taking time to think. In reality, they analyze the facts so quickly it just
seems this way. Comprehensive thinkers are usually analytical, too.
These writers are natural geniuses. They are very sharp, sometimes even
too sharp for their own good.
In an argument, if they are sarcastic, they will always have a ready
comeback. This writer will get bored easily and needs to be constantly
learning new things.
In a relationship, people with similar thinking patterns tend to get along
well. On the other hand, a very comprehensive thinking, aggressive,
Handwriting analysis 13
dominant man may seek out a cumulative, creative, gentle woman to
complement his aggressive style by being a soft touch in his life. She
will not be as sharp as he is, but he will not be as creative or gentle.
Often, men and women that are comprehensive thinkers like to be around
gentle cumulative thinkers to relax!
4.BASELINE
In analysing a handwriting let us first take the baseline. If you are given a blank
paper and
asked to write, you will write on a line which is imaginary. Not all of us write in a
straight line and
not every time we write on a straight line. The imaginary line on which we write
is called
‘baseline.’ Now the questions whether one’s handwriting goes uphill or downhill
or stays even, are
connected to baseline. The interpretation of baselines comes from the
universal concept of up
versus down.
Baseline reveals 1. attitudes about reaching our goals, 2. the kind of mental
energy we apply
to our life situations, 3. our general moods.
1. STABLE BASELINE (STRAIGHT BASELINE)
If someone maintains a straight baseline, we understand the person as one
who is stable in
outward behaviour, even-keeled, and level. It indicates a consistent and
controlled behaviour
exhibited.
Handwriting analysis 14
Straight line is a straightforward path and its meaning is a firm, unchanging
foundation. Its
positive qualities are straightness, discipline, will power, constancy of purpose,
realism, and
responsibility. Its negative aspect impact is inflexibility.
02. CAUTIOUS BASELINE (OVERLY STRAIGHT BASELINE)
If someone maintains an overly straight baseline, that person reveals over-
control to
compensate for an inner fear of loss of control. When anything is overdone it is
usually the opposite
of what appears to be. An extremely sweet person is hiding his/her hostility
towards the one to
whom he/she shows extreme reverence and sweetness. Anything overdone is
to be questioned. Any
extreme will not be the straight message but has a hidden message opposite of
what it purports to
indicate.
Handwriting analysis 15
3 .HEALTHY BASELINE (TRUE ASCENDING BASELINE)
A baseline that runs uphill all the way to the last letter and does not drop off in
the middle or
at the end, then it is a ‘true ascending baseline.’ It is a very positive sign. It is an
indication that the
writer has healthy mental energy and can stay busy, active, and constantly on
the go, involving
many activities simultaneously. Research done on successful individuals in the
world reveals that
over 90 % of them had an ascending baseline. In short, it simply means that
you will put healthy
mental energy into everything. It need not necessarily mean optimism. Even
people with depression
could have an ascending baseline. It simply indicates that you will utilize all
your energy for
whatever you undertake. It mostly coincides with healthy type of application of
our energy.
Rising lines indicate rising in the world, surmounting obstacles and difficulties.
Its meaning
can be ambition, aggression, optimism, hopefulness, and cheerfulness. Its
negative meanings are
excitability, euphoria, and choleric behaviour.
04. THE QUITTER BASELINE (FALSE ASCENDING BASELINE)
There are some people who start writing uphill but drop off at the end. They are
quitters.
They start with a lot of mental energy but before they could achieve the goal
Handwriting analysis 16
they retire. This type
of handwriting is called ‘false ascending baseline.’ It is true that it is ascending
but since it falls
down at the end we call it false ascending; it is an ascending that is false. It has
a false appearance.
A person who has a false ascending baseline is a quitter. The person may be
enthusiastic about
his/her goal as he/she starts but before reaching the goal gives up.
5 DEPRESSIVE BASELINE (DESCENDING BASELINE)
In children’s handwriting we find most of them are descending baseline. In a
descending
baseline we find most of the lines go downward. These people are negative in
general. Perhaps they
have met with defeat, disillusionment and constant disappointment in their lives
which make them
to be depressed. If all the lines of a writer are evenly and equally downhill, the
writer has been
depressed for a long time. For a long time the writer learned to live with
depression which has
become a way of life for him/her.24
Falling or descending lines point out a sinking feeling, or one of diffidence. It is
also
possible that it results from a purely physical weakness, or physical or mental
tiredness of a
temporary nature. Its meaning can be critical approach, down to earth,
tiredness, depression, gloom
and melancholy, pessimism, indolence, apathy, ill health, and digestive trouble.

SIZING
1: LARGE WRITING
Anything large attracts attention. In the same way, a handwriting which is large
attracts
enough attention. Those who write large letters are extroverts. They cannot
concentrate on small
details. There is a great need for them to demand space in life. They so much
wish to appear big and important. They are usually extravagant, lavish,
ceremonial, prodigal, and luxurious. They are
usually big planners and see things in a big way. If they are in charge of any
work, they plan out
things that are grandiose, which others may think as too great to achieve.
Needless to say how they would like to show off. Beginning with their gestures
and whatever they wear will be a magnificent
‘show off.’ They are boisterous and loud. Somehow they would like to be in the
centre stage.
Actors, salespeople, and politicians write large-sized letters. Their profession
involves
extroversion. Practically all the world leaders’ writings are big
There are also persons who attract attention not only by large handwritings but
also by very
small handwritings compared to the background. For example, take the letter of
Handwriting analysis 18
a person which he wrote with medium size or big size, but made the signature
too small in contrast to the size of the letters of the background. This too can
attract attention. Here below you will find a letter written by Reginald to his
friend Sheela. Reginald becomes very conspicuous not by making his signature
large or very large, but by merely making it very small compared to the size of
the letters of the message. Thus we find that people can seek attention by
being extra large or being extra small
2. MEDIUM-SIZED WRITING
Medium-sized writing avoids being large or small. It is usually found in most
people’s
handwriting. They are normally social and have an average ability to
concentrate on things. Except
once a while shifting the size of their writing depending upon their mood, they
maintain their
medium-sized writing.
Medium-size writing indicates a desire for conventional or conforming. This
person has a
need to conform in all areas.
3. SMALL WRITING
It is the opposite of large writing. If large writing means extroversion, small
writing means
introversion. Introverts by nature direct their energy on themselves rather than
on others and
external objects, or events.
People write small letters for various reasons. First of all, the person wants to
be a hermit
withdrawn from the external world. Secondly, the person writes small letters for
concentration. As one concentrates on what he/she writes, the movements of
the hand and fingers are restricted and so
the writing becomes small. Thirdly, it may be due to their low self-image that
Handwriting analysis 19
people write small
letters. Graphologists say that between 5 and 10 % of people on account of
their inferior feeling
write small letters. Their sense of inadequacy in the world and life makes them
write small letters.
They feel as small as their letters appear to be. Yet another reason for writing
small letters is due to the sense of economy. These people want to save paper.
They may tend to be economical in all the facets of their life. It may be also due
to the limited space provided. For example, signing on your identity card, you
will write small letters. Scientists, composers, authors, and mathematicians
write small-sized letters most of the time. Their profession requires deep
concentration on account of which the letters become small. When the writing
is small and well formed, it means that the person can concentrate on small
details for a long time as well
