NYU ECE Analog Circuit Design Homework 9

The document outlines Homework 9 for the ECE – GY 6403 course at NYU Tandon School of Engineering, focusing on analog integrated circuit design. It includes two main problems requiring calculations related to gain and frequency in circuits, with specific parameters provided. Students are instructed to submit their solutions in a single organized file, demonstrating their reasoning and calculations.

ECE – GY 6403 Fundamentals of Analog Integrated Circuit Design

Fall Semester 2024

Homework 9
Instructions:
- Solve the following problems.
- Unless otherwise stated, use the parameters of the following table.
-

𝑓𝐹
- Assume VDD = 3 V and Cox = 3.8 𝜇𝑚2 .

Deliverables:
- Handwritten or computer typed solution for each problem showing your
reasoning and calculations to get the results. Clearly state and justify any
assumption you deemed necessary to get the result. There is no specific
format to present your homework, but all the problems should be presented
in just one file (.pdf, .doc, etc.). Keep your work organized and easy to follow.

Problem 1:

a) Prove that for a one pole system Av0*f3dB = Av(f)*f = 1*fu. which Av0 is the DC
gain of the system, f3dB is 3 dB frequency and fu is unity gain frequency.

b) One phase of a switched-capacitor circuit is shown in Fig. 1, where the input

signal can be modelled as a voltage step and 0.1% accuracy is needed in
0.1 μs (7𝜏 = 0.1 μs). Assuming linear settling (one pole system), find the
required unity-gain frequency in terms of the capacitance values, C1 and C2.
For C2 = 10C1 what is the necessary unity-gain frequency of the opamp?
What unity-gain frequency is needed in the case C2 = 0.2C1?

Hint: Assume that the opamp has unity gain frequency fT and gain of AV0.

Problem 2:

The circuit of Fig. 2, where a source follower, M4, is inserted in the feedback loop.
Note that M1 and M4 can also be viewed as a differential pair. Assume that
(W/L)1−4 = 50/0.5, ID = 0.5 mA, for all transistors RS1 = RF = RD2 = 3 kΩ, and Vb2 =
1.5 V. Calculate the closed-loop voltage gain and output resistance.
