Word processing is the act or process of using a software to create, edit. View, store, retrieve, format and
print textual documents such as letter, report, letterhead and other document.

Word Processor can be defined editing, for matting and printing material as the software used for out
of any sort of printable
Word processor is a computer application used for the production (including composition, editing,

FEATURES OF WORD PROCESSORS
All word processors support the following base features
1. Insert text: ability to insert text anywhere in the document
2. Delete text: allows you to erase characters, words, lines Pages as easily as you can cross them
out on
3. Cut and Paste: allow you to remove a document and paste it in somewhere
4. Copy: Allows you to duplicate a section of text
5. Page size and margin: allows you to define various size and margins and the word processor
will adjust the text to fit in to the margin.
6. Search and replace allows or phrase
7. Word Wrap: It helps move text to the next line when filled one line with text and it will
readjust text if to send a document to a printer to you to change the margins
8. Print: allows you to send documents to printer to get hardcopy
NOTE: Word processors that support only these features (and may. few others) are referred to as
text editors.
The following are the features of the full-features word processor. The following Will
File Management: It allows for files.
2 Font Specifications: allows you to change fonts within document. Eg Bold, Italics,
underlining; change the font size eg 12, 14, 16 and the font face e.g Times New Romans,
Calibri, etc.
3. Footnotes and cross-references: It automates numbering and placement of footnotes and
enables other Sections of the document.
4. Headers, Footers and page numbering
5. Graphics: ability to embed illustrations and graphs into a document.
6. Layout: specify different margins within a single document and to specify various methods
for indenting paragraphs
7. Macros: represents a series of keystrokes
8. Merge: Allows you to merge text from one file to another file
9. Spell checker: To check the spelling of words. It will highlight it if the word is not recognized

11. Thesaurus: allows you to search for synonyms without leaving word processor
12. WYSIWYG: (what you see is what you get): It allows a document to appear on the screen
exactly as it will look when printed.

This is an example of word processor designed by Microsoft Corporation USA. It
is the most common word processor today because of its special features. The
following are the versions of Microsoft office:

FEATURES OF MSWORD
Office button/file button: located in the upper left corner of Microsoft word, provided you with
print, save, and close with basic command such open.
Ribbon: It is a collection of set of tools and commands organized in groups.
Title bar: gives information about the name of the package as well as the name of the document
you are working on.
Status bar: it contains information about the document. Example of the current page number of
words in a document or page
Taskbar: Displays document a user is working on and other document that were open by the
user start menu system etc.
Text Area or Workspace: It is use to create and preview document
Minimize button: used to hide a current document
Maximize button: It restores previously minimized document or to enlarge a document
window.
Close button: used to close document window.
Scroll bar (Horizontal and vertical): Used to scroll a document to the left and right (horizontal
scroll bar or up and down) .
Ruler: used to scale a document horizontally or vertically.

COPYING A DOCUMENT
There are five major methods involved in coping as document

SHORT CUT METHOD
1. Highlight the portion of a document to be copied
2. right click on the highlighted area
3. select copy
4. position the intersection point(cursor) in a new location
5. right click in the empty space
6. select paste
KEYBOARD METHOD
1. highlight the text to be copied
2. press the keyboard ctrl + C
3. Position the cursor on the intersection point
4. Press the keys CTRL + V to paste
DRAG AND DROP
1. Highlight the text to be copied
2. Hold down the ctrl key as you drag the highlighted text to a new location
3. Release the mouse.
CUTTING A TEXT AND PASTE SOMEWHERE
To cut a document means to move it from the original location to a different location
1. Format print: used to apply text formatting and some graphics formatting such as border.
2. Spelling and grammar: This feature checks whether a document as error for both and grammar.
HOW TOM USE SPELLING AND GRAMMAR ICON
1. Check on review ribbon
2. Click on spelling and grammar icon
3. Select a sentence by default and ask you to ignore or click on suggestion and click change.
4. Click on next sentence to move to the next error and repeat above step.
5. Click done with spelling and grammar action, click ok, on the displayed dialogue box.
WORD COUNT: This tells the number of pages and words in your document. It is on the status bar at the
bottom of the workspace.

Font effects such as strikethrough, subscript, superscript, double strikethrough, change case,
character spacing. E.g kerning, expanded area
Kerning: Alters the spacing between the particular pairs to letter

Cap, page number, header and footers, tables, merge cells, split cells, insert cells, insert column

SAVING A DOCUMENT
1. Click on the office button/file menu
2. Select save as
3. Select drive or directory to save the document
4. Click on file name, type in your desired document
5. Click on save document
To save a document with password
1. Click on the office document
2. Select save as
3. Select drive or directory to save the document
4. Click on filename to type in your desired document
5. Type your password in the password to open textbox.
6. Type the same password, inside the password to modify textbox then click ok
7. Click on the save button
PRINTING IN DOCUMENT
1. Click the office button
2. Move the mouse to print and select print
3. Select the correct printer from the drop down arrow
4. Select the pages you wish to print number of copies
5. Specify the number of pages you want on a sheet
6. Click ok.
CLOSING A DOCUMENT
1. Click on the office button
2. Select close or exit
3. Beside the title bar at the upper right, select the close button
