Click the ‘Catalog’

Select the
option ‘New’
and click it
Right click
the folder
and you will
see the
following
options
Left click the
‘shapefile’
option
On clicking
the
‘shapefile’
option this
pop-up
window
comes
Give name to
the shapefile

Select the
Feature type.
Here we are
selecting Now click Edit to assign
‘Point’ the coordinate system
On clicking the Edit, the
coordinate system window is
pop-up
Select the GCS system
Then, Select the ‘World’
Then, Select the ‘WGS 1984’

Then, click ‘OK’


All the details are now
added

Now , click ‘OK’


As soon as you
click ‘OK’ the
point
shapefile is
created and
automatically
added in the
‘Layers’
Right click the ‘location’ shapefile and
click on the ‘Open Attribute Table’ for
creating the database
Click the drop-down button and these options are available
Click on the Add Field to
add your description to the
database
As you Click on the Add Field this pop-up
window occurs
Give the name eg. description

Select ‘Type’ as ‘Text’


The details can be seen

Now click ‘Ok’ to complete


The following error is seen if the ‘Name’ is more than 8 characters.
So change the Name to few characters as ‘descr’
Now click ‘OK’ after reducing the ‘Name’
You can see the field added in
the Attribute table
Now you will return
to the main ArcMap
and Right Click the
‘Location’ shapefile.
On right click, you can see these options

Click on the ‘Edit Features’ option


Click on the ‘Start Editing’ option
If this Window appears,
click ‘continue’
See the ‘location’
shapefile here
Left click the ‘location’
shapefile

On clicking the ‘location’


shapefile you can see this
option
Drag the line to a suitable
extent by pressing the
left side of the mouse
and fit the line so that
you can see the option
below clearly
Zoom the toposheet to certain extent
Click the ‘point’ tool to
draw the point data
You can see the point location where the
‘point’ is dropped
You can see the highlighted ‘point’ location. To remove
the highlight Goto ‘Clear Selected Features’. After
every point this is to be done
As you click the ‘Clear Selected Features’ the selection
is removed
In order to increase the size of the pointer. Click on the
point
On clicking the
point this new
pop-up
window
appears
You can change the size
to 16
You can see the Change in the font in both places
Right click the ‘location’ shape file and click the ‘Open Attribute Table’
On clicking the ‘Open Attribute Table’ you can
see the blank database table. Now you have to
enter the Id and description here
I have now entered the Id and description here
I have now put the second
point location
Now use ‘Clear Selection
Feature’ to clear the slection
Right click and select the
‘open attribute table’ to give
the location details
Give the Id and click ‘enter’, then give the
‘description’ and click ‘enter’
Now go to ‘Editor’
Click ‘Save Edits’
Now final Click ‘Stop
Editing’
If you wish to again
digitizes the point
features then follow:
1. Start Editing
2. Save Edits
3. Stop Editing
Finally Save the mxd file
