Paragraph
Padma Bridge
Padma Bridge is one of the dream projects of Bangladesh. It connects Mawa of
Munshiganj with Janjira of Shariatpur. The Padma Bridge is a multipurpose road-
rail bridge across the Padma River in Bangladesh. It will be the world's six-largest
multipurpose bridge. Padma Bridge will connect the south-west region of the
country with the capital and eastern part. The project is now being funded from
the own resources of the government of Bangladesh. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina
laid the foundation stone of Padma Bridge on 12th December 2015. The total
length of the Padma Bridge is 6.15 km and width is 18.10m. It is a four lane highway
and single lane Railway Bridge. The total number of spans of the bridge is 41. Each
of them is 150 meters long and weighs 3,140 tons. "Bangladesh Bridge Authority"
is maintaining the Padma Bridge. The contractor of the bridge is "China Major
Bridge Engineering Corporation". It is a truss bridge and the material of the bridge
is steel. The bridge will open a new horizon in the communication system of the
country. It will bring a revolutionary change in the life of south-west residents. For
this, regional corporations will be increased. In addition, it will play an important
role in the economic sector of Bangladesh. Industrial development and
employment opportunities will be increased. Not only will the economy and
transportation facilities will increase but also medical and educational facilities will
be easy to access.
Metro Rail
Dhaka Metro Rail (DMR) is a rapid transit system under construction in Dhaka, the
capital of Bangladesh. A 20km Metro Rail route will be constructed from Uttara to
Bangladesh Bank, having 16 stops. The 16 stations are Uttara, Mirpur, Rokeya
Sarani, Khamarbari, Farmgate, Sonargaon Hotel, Shahbagh, Doel Chattar, and
Topkhana Road. The Dhaka Metro Rail Project has a total cost of Tk 22,000 crore.
The Japanese government, through JICA, will provide Tk 16,600 crores of the total
project cost of Tk 22,000 crores ($2.5 billion) as a loan at a 0.01% interest rate. The
rest will have to be managed by the government. The construction began in May
2015, and it is expected to be completed by 2022. It is being built as an elevated
concrete structure. All stations are being constructed as elevated concrete
structures with massive pillars. It will not be a ground-level track like the ones you
find in many cities worldwide, but rather a series of elevated tracks that run above
the ground level. This is to keep these stations well away from traffic and pollution
to ensure maximum comfort for passengers over long distances. The development
of a metro rail project in Dhaka is speeding up in order to relieve the city’s severe
traffic congestion. In two stages, the project will be completed. The metro rail
service, officially known as the rapid mass transit (MRT) Line-6, is scheduled to
transport around 60,000 people every hour once it is finished. It is expected to save
travel time inside Dhaka city by a substantial amount. The initiative is estimated to
save TK 200 billion every year, which will be a significant boon to our first-
generation economy. However, Dhaka residents have been experiencing
challenges as a result of significant traffic congestion since the project began. The
continuous excavation for the metro train has resulted in this predicament.
Nonetheless, individuals are willing to put up with these little inconveniences
because they know that eliminating traffic bottlenecks would save thousands of
work hours. It would also provide a pleasant lifestyle for city people. As a result, it
is fair to argue that metro rail has opened the door to a more contemporary and
pleasant future.
Advancement of Modern Science
Imagining a world without science is like imagining death or the ultimate end. It is
because science is something that has forever been a very intricate and integrated
part of our lives. It is because of the contribution of science in the field of
agriculture that food is being produced. Starting from telegrams, then telephones,
and now smartphones, science is the reason behind all these inventions and their
evolutions. When human imagination can be brought into reality for physical use,
it is called invention, possibly because of science. One such great invention that
impacted us as much as once the discovery or creation of fire did is the invention
of electricity. The discovery of electricity opened several doors to other scientific
inventions that only meant making survival even easier. The discovery of the
different types of energy also meant the evolution of our transportation systems
to the most efficient for us at present. Troubles and hardships have always helped
people to come up with solutions using science, whether knowingly or
unknowingly. With science, we have discovered ways to satisfy our needs and
wants even in the absence of the real things that we require. That means science
has, in a way, also introduced artificialness into our lives so that we are not
deprived of the things we need and want.
Our Liberation War
Bangladesh is an independent country. But once it was not an independent
country. The people of Bangladesh did not have liberty and sovereignty. In 1947,
this area was divided into two countries. One was India and the other was Pakistan.
On the other hand, Pakistan was divided into two parts. One was East Pakistan and
the another was west Pakistan. Our Bangladesh's name was East Pakistan and we
were ruled by West Pakistan, They not only ruled us but also used to persecute us.
They smuggled our products and wealth from our country. We were deprived of all
kinds of facilities and our proper rights. We wanted to be free from them and their
torture. But there was not any leader who can protest against them. In the
meantime, the great leader of Bangladesh Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman
protested against them and he was the dreamer of our independence. We have
gotten our independence in his efforts and his leadership. So, Bangabandhu is
called the father of the nation of Bangladesh. On 7th March 1971, he used to
declare a speech in the national assembly standing in front of about 1 million
people. In this speech, indirectly he declared our independence, but he declared
our independence directly on the first hour 26 March in 1971. He suggested that
Banglali fight combat against the Pakistani army. After hearing the declaration of
independence, Patriotism rose in the Bangladeshi people. First, they started to fight
against the Pakistani army without any kind of arm. But after some days they
started to take training from India and fought bravely against the Pakistani army in
combat. Some so many collaborators didn't support the liberation war through
they were Bangles. They used to show the way to the Pakistani army and helped
them. However, the freedom fighters fought for 9 months against the Pakistani
army. After 9 months later, on 16th December 1971, finally, we have gotten our
victory. Pakistan lost the war and they surrendered. The victory of our country
didn't come just like that. We have gotten it in exchange for the lives of 3 million
people. They were very respectable people for us. For them, now we are the citizen
of an independent country. They are called the best children of the Bengali nation.
We got the national flag, national anthem, and an independent country only for
them. So, we should tribute them. To show homage to them we go to the memorial
barefoot and also pray to Allah for them.
The Victory Day
The 16th of December is the Victory Day of Bangladesh. It is the most memorable
day in the history of our country. After a nine-month-long bloody battle, we won
the victory on this day. The Pakistani Army was compelled to surrender. Bangladesh
occupied a place in the world map as an independent country. Every year we
observe this day with due solemnity. We remember the supreme sacrifice of the
patriotic heroic sons who laid down their lives for the country and we pay glowing
tribute to their departed soul. The day begins with gunshots. The whole country
puts on a festive look. The national flag is hoisted on the top of each house and
office. The whole atmosphere is resounded with Bangabandhu’s fiery speech of the
March and the patriotic songs. The armed forces of the country organize special
parades and gun-shots. The Prime Minister and the President took salute from
them. Political leaders and people, in general, visit the National Monument at
Savar. They offer flowers there to show their heartfelt love for the heroic sons who
died for the cause of freedom. Meetings, seminars, symposiums, and discussions
are held on this day by different govt. and non-govt. organizations. This day is a day
of great joy, hope, and inspiration. This victory symbolizes a victory against
injustice, tyranny, and falsehood. This day will remain ever fresh and evergreen in
the heart of each and every Bangladeshi.
Smart Bangladesh
Smart Bangladesh is a vision for a modern and sustainable nation that is harnessing
the power of technology to drive growth and development. Bangladesh has been
making significant strides towards this vision in recent years through various
initiatives, such as the Digital Bangladesh program, which aims to create a more
connected and accessible society by providing widespread access to mobile and
internet services. Additionally, the country is investing in renewable energy
sources, such as solar power, to reduce its reliance on fossil fuels and combat
climate change. Bangladesh is also fostering a culture of innovation and
entrepreneurship, with a growing startup ecosystem that is attracting both local
and foreign investment. The government is establishing incubators and
accelerators to support startups and entrepreneurs, and STEM education is being
prioritized to build a skilled workforce that can contribute to the country’s
technological advancement. Moreover, the development of smart cities with
modern infrastructure and innovative technologies is making urban living more
efficient and comfortable. Smart Bangladesh is not just a vision, but a reality that is
rapidly taking shape. The country’s progress towards becoming a technologically
advanced and sustainable nation is a testament to its commitment to growth and
development. With continued investment in technology, education, and
innovation, Bangladesh is poised to become a leader in the global economy.
Food Adulteration
Man cannot live without food. It is essential for health and life. But this food must
pure, clean and fresh. Nowadays foods are often adulterated. In hotels and
restaurants, stale and rotten foods are mixed with fresh food and served to the
customers. In order to look them fresh, chemicals and preservatives poisonous are
mixed with fishes and vegetables. Bakery and confectionery products are also
prepared by using toxic substances and thus they get adulterated. Junk food
contains harmful chemicals. Even fruits, milk, and beverages are also adulterated.
In fact, dishonest and greedy businessmen and shopkeepers for quick and
unearned profit adulterate all kinds of foods and food articles. Adulterated foods
are a serious health hazard. They cause many fatal diseases and even death. Food
adulteration has become an alarming problem in our country. Dealing
with adulterated food is a great crime. The criminals have to be identified and
punished. Public awareness should be created so that they become careful about
buying foods and food articles. People should see to it that dishonest and greedy
food dealers are looked down upon in society. The relevant departments of the
government should remain ever vigilant against adulteration and gear up their
activities. It is encouraging that our government has taken appropriate measures
to remove this problem, punish the criminals, and save the people from this
dreadful scourge.
Globalization
Globalization refers to the process of interaction and integration among the people
worldwide for the target of expanding trade and commerce, cultural and political
activities. It creates a borderless market all over the world. In the new era of
international relations, globalization has become a buzzword. But it has had a far-
reaching effect on many spheres of life. With the development of high tech
communication media, rapid technological progress and rapid transportation
facilities the world has come closer. Instantly, we can now learn about the
happenings in the farthest corner of the world. Also, we can now travel to any
country in the shortest possible time. Countries of the world are like families in a
village. Like the next-door neighbors, they can even share their joys and sorrows.
In the distress of one country, other countries can immediately come to its
assistance. By building up an atmosphere of mutual understanding and co-
operation our world could certainly be a better place to live in through this
globalization process, But Globalization has its demerits too. The gap between
wealth and poverty is enlarging. Globalization has given place to the people of the
world on the same vessel but in different cabins. Only a few people are travelling
in luxurious cabins that are furnished with all modern amenities. They have access
to pure drinking water, nutritious food, sophisticated Medicare and a life of luxury.
But the majority are travelling in the third class decks. They are suffering from
hunger and disease. Globalization can bring happiness to every one of the world
only on condition of solidarity, equity and justice. It is possible when all passengers
of the ship will travel in the same class of cabins.
Child Laborer
Child labor is the illegal act which forces children to be away from of their normal
childhood, their schooling, their normal growth and development. Child labor is a
big social issue; it is destroying the nation’s future by harming the physical and
mental development of its future leaders. It is very dangerous for children in all
aspects such as mentally, physically, socially, and morally. It interferes with the
schooling of children, deprives their opportunity to attend school, forces them to
leave school prematurely, forces them to perform tasks of long hours and heavy
work, etc. Child labor has enslaved the life of children, separated them from their
childhood, education and families, and exposed them to serious hazards, illnesses,
diseases and many more harms at a very early age. A big percentage of children are
involved in child labor in the field of agriculture, and other involved fields are
fishing, mining and quarrying, construction, manufacturing, restaurants and hotels,
storage, transport, communications, insurance, finance, real-estate, business
services and many more. It has been spread all over the country like a disease and
poison which needed to be out of this to save the present of children and future of
country.
Gender Discrimination
Gender discrimination means treating any gender in society unfairly. When a
person of any gender is not given his/her rights just because of his gender that is
called gender discrimination. That means if someone is neglected because of his
gender, he is the victim of gender discrimination. Gender discrimination can affect
both men and women, although it most commonly affects women who are often
paid less, promoted less, and subjected to sexual harassment and bias in the
workplace. There are so many problems that are the main culprits of the
development of a society. Of them, gender discrimination is one of the main
problems. We have many fields around us where gender discrimination happens.
Important places like offices, schools, colleges, universities, Competitions,
seminars, programs, events, and other workplaces have a touch of gender
discrimination. Especially women in our society face this problem the most. They
are the worst sufferers of this gender discrimination problem. They start facing it
from birth at the family stages. Male children get the best facilities of the family,
they have all the priorities and importance but female children are often neglected.
People think that male children will earn money one day and female children will
do only domestic work. That’s why they give more facilities to male children. Our
society is always dominated and directed by males. Everywhere the males make
the final decisions, they dominate everywhere. Gender discrimination can have a
bad impact on an individual’s personal and professional life, causing stress, mental
health issues, and limited career advancement opportunities. It is illegal in many
countries and prohibited by international human rights law.
Women’s Contribution
Woman is an important part of the world. But woman is not given so much
privilege, as she needs to express herself. However, the role of women in nation
building cannot be denied any more in the context of present reality of the world.
It is not possible for any nation to get to goal without allowing women to play an
active role. There was a time when women were looked upon without any dignity
and honor. They were mere instruments to serve the family affairs. But with the
progress of civilization, the outlook and the attitude of the world towards women
have changed. This is true not only for the western countries but also for the Islamic
countries as well. And Bangladesh is not an exception to this. It may be safely
asserted that the development of a nation depends on the women-folk too. A
number of women in our country are working in different garment factories. By
working in the factory they earn their livelihood and maintain their family. There
are also many women who are working in government and nongovernment offices
with their professionals nowadays. They are working and earning a lot not only for
supporting their own family but also for contributing to the whole development of
our country. The women of Bangladesh are developing themselves in every stage
of life. They are now more conscious, serious and professional. They are getting
educated as well as preparing themselves for competing with the male. The women
are now enjoying their fundamental rights. But it is a matter of great regret that a
number of women in both villages and towns in our country have to face a lot of
social and religious bindings. But according to Islam both men and women should
be given equal rights. So, government as well as the educated circle of our
population should come forward to establish the rights of the women so that they
can actively take part in nation building. Thinking women‘s contribution to society,
our national and rebel poet Kazi Nazrul Islam uttered, ―What are great in this
world, half has been done by woman half by man.
Corruption
There are many scams that are not included in the public eye but have impacted a
lot. They are known as Corruption. Corruption is an act of treachery that has rarely
left anyone or any place. From Hospitals to corporations and governments, nothing
and no one is immune from Corruption. Corruption starts from the higher levels
and moves down to the lower levels rapidly, forming an atmosphere of less hard
work and cheated results. There are even proofs that politicians were provided
resources by drug lords and smugglers, and when they or their existence is
threatened, immediate actions are taken against them mostly resulting in death.
Even the most influential countries are not free from Corruption because who
would not like power and success? And the easiest way to do that is by earning an
excessive amount of money. Corruption stops them from degrading influence.
However, Corruption cannot prevent the degradation of their morals or values, and
it increases the same. None of us can even imagine the amount of money that goes
into their accounts for personal accumulations. Corruption is now a bug that is
insidious inside every Department and arena of the government. Corruption has
now crippled our economy, and our functions have gone haywire due to it.
Karnaphuli Tunnel
The Bangabandhu Tunnel is a major development in Bangladesh’s transportation
network, spanning 3.32 kilometers. It plays a vital role in connecting different parts
of the country which were divided by mighty river Karnaphuli. Inspired by China’s
“one city two towns” model, this tunnel is a vital addition to the road transport
sector. It’s an extensive project aimed at enhancing connectivity. Prime Minister
Sheikh Hasina and Chinese President Xi Jinping launched the construction of the
Karnaphuli Tunnel on October 14, 2017, and Sheikh Hasina inaugurated this tunnel
on October 28, 2023. The tunnel connects Chittagong’s port city in the north with
Anwara upazila in the south, running beneath the Karnaphuli River at depths
ranging from 18 to 31 meters. The 3.32 km tunnel is the second “dream plan” in
the road transport sector after the Padma Bridge in connecting the two regions of
the country. The length of the entire route is 9.39 kilometers (5.83 mi), the tunnel
is 3.32 kilometers (2.06 mi) long and has a diameter of 10.80 meters (35.4 ft).It
features multiple lanes, making transportation more efficient. For instance, the
journey from Dhaka to Chittagong and the tourist city of Cox’s Bazar will be
shortened by 40 kilometers, saving an hour of travel time. The project was
completed at a cost of Tk 10,374 crore, with almost half of the funding coming from
China’s Exim Bank. The China Communication and Construction Company Limited
(CCCC) conducted the tunnel’s construction. This tunnel not only improves
economic activities but also has the potential to boost tourism in the region.
