Theoretical review
This some of the previous studies of this research the book Lexical Meaning by [Link],
Murphy was published in 2010. This book is a study of the introduction to linguistics and
talks more about lexical meaning which is related to my topic the lexical comparison.
3. In this slide I’m going to discuss more about what Lynne Murphy said in the [Link] is
a study of linguistic meaning. Lexical semantics refers to the lexicon, lexicon can refer to; a
dictionary, or vocabulary. A lexicon is the collection of those associations between
pronunciations, meanings, and grammatical properties that had to be learned rather than
produced by grammatical rules. And talk about The lexical comparison is a comparison of
dialects that may have different lexicons, grammar, and pronunciation.
4. In my research I focus on the language in Jayapura City, especially in Kayo Pulau and tobati
villages. To compare two different [Link] is kayo Pulau and tobati languages. As
you can see for instance there are several languages in the kayo Pulau and Tobati. The
language has a similar word but different meaning, but then has the same words and
meaning too.
Concept and description
5. You can see the map of Jayapura city. the red circle is kayo pulau and the blue circle is the
tobati village. The kayu pulau and tobati people are part of the tabi cultural area called port
numbay. Both of the are located in humbult bay and yotefa bay. Fun fact they are in the same
city but have a different language and dialect. In the kayu pulau village, there are four clans:
sibi, youwe, haay, and soro clans. According to information from the secretary of the kayo
pulau Berthus Pui, total number of kayo pulau people around 700-800 people. Customary
government system a leader namely the Ondoafi. In the Jayapura city government called
Tahimasoroma village. Less than 6 elderly people in kayo pulau village can speak the
language fluently. Kayo pulau language is one of the languages in papua which is almost
extict. different from the tobati village area in 2015,the population of tobati village was 272

6. Ladies and gentlemen the first picture is Kayo Pulau and the second picture is the tobati. As
you can see the two beautiful girls from kayu pulau, they wear a traditional clothes from
kayo pulau and sit in the kayo pulau harbor.
Moreover this research uses descriptive linguistics and a semantic approach.
This method describes and explains the comparative lexicon of the languages to be
reserached.
The research aims to find similarities and differences in the lexicon between the kayo pulau
and tobati languages.
The list of vocabulary that I used is from the native speakers that live in the kayu pulau and
tobati villages.
7. In instruments of collecting data, I used a word list, sentence list, and questionnaire. In the
word list and sentence list use the elicitation technique. The elicitation technique. Basically
it’s like use the word list and ask the native speaker about the list of the data. My focus on
the Verbs and Nouns in the both of two languages. A native speaker must to answer the
whole question about the word list or sentence list. Another one of the data is a
questionnaire I used an interview technique. In analyzing data I use the elicitation
technique which is the word list and sentence list. I use the lexical meaning. In the lexical
meaning, there are semantic analyzing and phonological analyzing. In this method I focus to
looking for the meaning in the data. I make a sentence list with the morphological paradigm.
In analyzing semantic I just focus in the coqnitive or the same word of the language in Kayu
Pulau and Tobati villages.
8. Ladies and gentlemen, my expectation from this research is that I will produce vocabulary
from two languages. KAYO PULAU LANGUAGE AND TOBATI LANGUAGE to find The Difference
of the language and The similarity of the language. Vocabulary refers to the data from the
wordlist.
9. In conclusion, Kayo Pulau language and Tobat language are Austranesian language groups,
which have vocabulary with the same dialect or language but have different meanings. This
is what makes it unique. With this research, I hope to preserve the Indonesian language,
especially Kayu Pulo n tobati languages in terms of language, with the linguistic methods and
analysis that I use to find out the word structure of the similarities and differences of the two
languages.
