Capstone Project
▪ Integrates the skills and competencies that students have
learned in their engineering program
▪ Attempts to balance technical, business, and interpersonal
skills to help students immediately contribute to team
efforts in today’s fast-paced business and technical
environment.
The tasks involved in a capstone project
1. Identifying a product, service, process, or system need.
2. Forming a team.
3. Identifying competitive products and services, performing a patent search, and identifying required
resources.
4. Refining the topic and generating a project proposal that includes a specification, task list, work
breakdown, and schedule.
5. Preparing a design.
6. Developing and fabricating the product, process, or service.
7. Developing a test plan that complies with the specification.
8. Testing the system, product, process, or service.
9. Examining the business viability aspects of the project.
10. Preparing a final report and making a presentation, including a demonstration of the product,
process, or service.
Some needs that may stimulate thinking
about the benefits of a project idea

Project Definition
A project is a sequence of unique, complex, and connected
activities with a single goal or objective. It must be completed
within a specific time, appropriate budget, and according to the
required specifications.
Project : Purpose
1. A project typically involves a team working towards achieving a specific
result within a defined period of time.
2. To achieve the overall project objectives, it is necessary to break it down
into smaller tasks or sub-jobs that need to be accomplished.
3. Due to the complexity of projects, it is important to coordinate and
manage each sub-job in terms of time, work order, budget, and
performance.
Project : Complexity
1. Projects require the involvement of multiple departments, such
as marketing, personnel, engineering, production, and finance,
since a diverse range of expertise and abilities are needed to
complete the project's objectives.
2. Effective coordination between these departments is crucial to
ensure the project succeeds and meets its objectives.
Project : uniqueness
1. Each project has unique characteristics that distinguish it from
previous ones.
2. A project is a one-off job, never to be repeated in exactly the
same way.
Project : Non-Permanent
1. Projects are temporary activities.
2. A temporary organization manages personnel, materials, and
facilities to achieve a specific goal, usually within a specific
schedule. Once the goal is achieved, the organization will be
disbanded, and a new organization will be formed to
accomplish another objective.
Project : Unusual
Projects usually use new technologies and have elements of
uncertainty and risk. If a project is unsuccessful, it can have severe
consequences for the organization.
Project Management
Project Management is the process of encompassing, planning,
staffing, organizing, directing, and controlling the development of
an acceptable system at minimal cost and within a specified
timeframe.
