DIRECTION SENSE T E ST
 Direction is the measurement of position of one object
with respect to another object .
 The displacement of the object is the distance between

the starting point and the final point of an object.

 Main directions:

East , west, north and south

 Cardinal directions:
North-East(NE), North- West(NW)
South-East(SE), South -west(SW)
Important
note:
 The angle formed between the two main
directions is 90o
 The angle formed between the main Direction
and cardinal direction is 45°
Angle of moment:
 for solving questions based on angle of moment
it is necessary to know the rotation or know
the direction of rotation.

 Movement towards the right is called

clockwise moment (CW).
 Movement towards the left is called
anticlockwise moment (ACW).
Shortest distance:
 If we draw a straight line from the initial point of an
object to the final point than the length of this line is
called shortest distance.
 Then the distance between initial and final
position = A B + B C .
 But shortest distance between initial and final
position = A C
 A B = perpendicular ; B C = Base

 A C = Hypotenuse
 Hence the shortest distance between A and C is
 Example 1:Ravi walks 8 km northeast and then 6
km southeast find the total distance as well as
shortest distance between starting and ending
points.

 Note points:-
→ At the time of sunrise, if a person is facing East,
his /her shadow will be towards West direction.
→If a person is facing towards North at the time of
sunrise, his /her shadow will be towards West (i.e.,
his /her left).
→ At the time of sunrise, if a person is facing South,
his /her shadow will be towards his /her right (i.e.,
towards West).
→If a person is facing towards North at the time of
Sunset, his /her shadow will be towards his /her
right.
→ At 12:00 noon, the sun rays are vertically
downward, so no shadow will be formed at that
time.
