Project Description:
Our group intends to design and develop a spider robot that mimics the movement and
agility of a real spider. The robot will feature multiple articulated legs controlled through
a combination of servos and microcontrollers to achieve precise, stable, and adaptive
locomotion. The primary goal is to explore biomimicry in robotics, focusing on walking
algorithms, balance control, and terrain adaptability. The project will involve mechanical
design, electronic integration, and programming, resulting in a functional prototype
capable of navigating different surfaces and possibly performing tasks such as obstacle
avoidance or surveillance.
Project Objective:
1. Design and implement a walking mechanism that enables the SpiderBot to move
stably across various terrains using coordinated multi-leg motion, mimicking
spider-like gait patterns
2. Integrate sensors (such as ultrasonic or infrared) and control logic to enable the
SpiderBot to detect obstacles in real time and autonomously navigate around
them.
3. Develop a dual-mode control system that allows the SpiderBot to be operated
manually via Bluetooth or mobile app, as well as autonomously through
programmed decision-making based on sensor input.
Methodology:
• System Design and Component Selection
• Mechanical Structure Setup
• Sensors and Motors Integration
• Arduino-Based Control Algorithm Development
• Code Upload and Simulation
• System Testing and Optimization
Real-Life Application:
• Navigating through rubble or collapsed buildings after earthquakes or disasters.
It’s legged design allows it to climb over uneven terrain where wheels fail.
• Monitoring hazardous environments like pipelines, tunnels, or nuclear facilities. It can
quietly and efficiently maneuver in confined or dangerous spaces.
• Reconnaissance missions in rough terrains or stealthy scouting in urban warfare zones.
Low profile, low noise, and terrain adaptability.
• Teaching robotics, kinematics, and control systems to students. It offers an exciting and
hands-on way to learn programming and mechanics.
