Project Guideline

The BANA 4090 Forecast & Risk Analysis project requires teams to analyze a dataset of their choice, applying concepts learned in class. Deliverables include a project proposal due on 07/20/2025 and a final report due on 08/03/2025, with specific content requirements for each. Grading will focus on data complexity, model selection, report quality, and actionable insights derived from the analysis.

BANA 4090 Forecast & Risk Analysis

Project Guideline

The project is designed as an application of the concepts learned in the class. It is expected to discover
interesting relationships and patterns using a significant amount of real data. It is a teamwork, where
each team is required to identify a topic of your own interest and find a dataset that can be analyzed
given the concepts covered in the class (time series data or cross-sectional data). The project counts for
25 points of your final grade.

Deliverables:

1. Project Proposal (a ppt file, 4 slides all included, due 11:59pm 07/20/2025): 5 points
The slides should specify what you are going to study, why it is important, and the data (with the data
source).

2. Final Project Report (a pdf file plus code and any other supporting material, due 11:59pm
08/03/2025): 20 points
The project report should contain:
a) Details of the dataset, including the data used for the analysis. You can provide the raw and the
processed data, along with a reference for the data source. Name the files properly so they can be
differentiated.
b) Model development details
c) Justification of why a particular model was used, including comparisons with other models
d) Full parameter estimates, and
e) Any other additional details that are necessary to understand the interpretation of your work (models
and insights).

Grading
The project will be graded based on:
a) Data variety and complexity
b) Use of proper model selection and development
c) Model accuracy and sophistication (sometimes a slightly low model accuracy on a complex dataset
may get more credit)
d) Writing of the report
e) Insights from model and actionable insights that are usable are highly valuable
