TEAM BOARD ORDERS & RESERVES
Team Consistency from League to Top Schools:
Players must remain in the team they represented during the qualifying leagues. For example, if U11
players competed in a U13 team during the 2nd term league, they are not permitted to return to the U11
team for the Top Schools playoffs. A player may only represent one team throughout both the league
and the Top Schools tournament.
Board Order Submission and Compliance:
The board order may differ from that used during the league. However, when registering for the Top
Schools tournament, schools must submit their player lists in the final intended board order. For every
match in the tournament, players must play according to the submitted order.
Use of Reserve Players:
A reserve player may be used at any time during the tournament. However, the reserve will
automatically be placed on Board 6, and all other players from Board 6 upwards must move up one
board accordingly.
Reinstating Original Players:
When the original player returns, all players must revert to their original registered board positions.
Notification of Reserve use:
The team manager must inform the Chief Arbiter at the end of the previous round if a reserve player
will be used in the next round. Please write it down on the Current Round’s Team Results Sheet.

Penalties for Infringements:

Any player who is ineligible or who plays out of the registered board order will have their game(s)
defaulted.

TEAM MANAGERS & VENUE

Dedicated Team Manager per Team:
Each team must have a dedicated team manager. One person may not manage multiple teams.

Manager Presence Required:

Team managers must be present during all rounds, fulfilling roles as score officials and for general team
supervision.

Discipline and Conduct:

Team managers are responsible for the discipline and conduct of their players both inside and outside
the playing venue.

Venue Access Restrictions:

Only the following individuals will be permitted inside the playing venue once a round has
started:
▪ Players who are currently playing matches
▪ Designated team managers
▪ District officials must please inform all parents and coaches in advance, as they will not be allowed
entry during active play.

3
Post-Game Protocol for Players:
Once a player has completed their game, they are considered a spectator and must exit the playing venue
immediately.

Seating and Score Recording:

Team managers are responsible for ensuring:

▪ Players are seated correctly according to the registered board order

▪ Scores are recorded accurately
However, managers must not interfere in any way with the games being played.

Manager Positioning During Play:

Each team manager must remain with their own team during rounds and must not move between teams
or roam the floor during games.

Supervision Outside the Playing Venue:

The safety and supervision of players outside the playing hall is the responsibility of each school. While
the team manager is inside with the playing team, other players must be supervised by another
representative from the school.

The organisers, school and tournament officials accept no liability for any harm caused to, or damaged
suffered by any attendee of the tournament (players, parents, siblings or any other persons) arising from
any cause whatsoever.

players in the Under-9 (U9) category, where appropriate.

team will be removed, and the Chief Arbiter may manually pair teams where necessary.
▪ Rounds 2–6: A default time of 10 minutes shall apply. Players not at their boards within 10 minutes of
the start of the round will forfeit the game.

Chess Clocks
Players are strongly encouraged to bring their own chess clocks and present them to the arbiter before
the start of each round. While it is not compulsory to bring a clock, it is highly recommended due to
limited availability. The Chief Arbiter reserves the right to assign available clocks to top boards in
selected sections.
