Honda New Zealand is in celebration mode after its legendary Civic Type R roared to victory at the AA
DRIVEN Car Guide NZ awards.

The Type R – which recently smashed racetrack records in Germany and Japan – has cemented its iconic
status with a Best in Class for Sports & Performance, as well as making it into the Top 3 overall for 2023.
The unstoppable Type R also won Performance Car of the Year in the 2023 [Link] Awards.

The Civic Type R: A thrilling legacy


The Type R is the ultimate expression of the brand’s proud racing history, recently breaking lap records
for a front-wheel drive production car at the renowned Suzuka and Nürburgring circuits. With improved
power-weight ratio and remarkable responsiveness, this hot hatchback – part of Honda’s Sports DNA
range – offers an unparalleled driving experience.

The design has been carefully honed to deliver a stunning blend of form and function. From the striking
front grille and aerodynamic body lines to its distinctive rear wing spoiler and sculpted hood, every inch
exudes style, class and performance excellence. The attention to detail continues the inside, with red
suede-style fabric seats enhancing the sporty look and feel.

Three preset driving modes – Comfort, Sport, and +R – are designed to optimise performance and provide
real-time access to critical information on the digital interface, including g-meter, lap timer, engine and oil
temperatures, boost pressure.

New to the 2023 Type R is the fourth driving mode, Individual, which enables drivers to fine-tune each
aspect of the car individually for the ultimate customised experience in any situation.
Powered by a 2.0 litre, 4-cylinder VTEC TURBO engine, the new Civic Type R delivers an impressive
maximum power output of 235kW. Exhilaration is the name of the game, with an inter-cooled DOHC
engine that hits 0 - 100km/h in just 5.4 seconds. Brembo brake calipers, an aggressive rear wing and
performance bucket seats allow drivers to push for the ultimate in driving performance.

Honda New Zealand is also excited to announce that the previously sold-out Type R will be back
in stores from January 2024. Customers are urged to secure theirs early by contacting their local
Honda Store.
