Gurage
Gurage people are highly entrepreneurial people with a culture of social mobility that celebrates
hard work. The Gurages are generally known by their food and dancing, as well as the fact that
they are clean and hard-working. There are many examples of Gurages who started out with
almost nothing, and become rich. They are also known to or helping each other.
The Gurage zone, which is part of the Southern Nation, Nationalities and People Region. Gurage
people are divided into several sub-groups, Sebat Bet Gurage, the Silt'e, the Soddo Gurage ,the
Mareqo or Libido, the Amhara, and the Kebena but the main is Sebat-bet Gurage which means
seven houses and refer to a group of seven Gurage tribes, which in turn have their specific
dialects which found in the western part of Gurage land. The Gurage live a sedentary life based
on agriculture, involving a complex system of crop rotation and transplanting. Ensete is their
main staple crop, but other cash crops are grown, which include coffee and chat.

Anyuak
The Anuak, also known as the Anyuak and Anywaa. The Anuak belong to the larger Luo Nilotic
ethnic group inhabiting parts of East Africa . Their language is referred to as Dha-anywaa. They
are primarily found in villages situated along the banks and rivers of southeastern South Sudan as
well as southwestern Ethiopia, especially the Gambela Region. The Anyuak society was originally
divided into two large clans: Tung Goc and Tung Odolla, The Anyuak settled in big villages
along the Akobo and Baro as well as Gilo Rivers and there are several such villages. Each
Anyuak village has a Nyie (king) or Kway-Luak (sub-chief) in control of the social and
administrative matters of the village.
Religion Now most of the Anuak are evangelical Christians, although they traditionally
believed in an almighty spirit known as Gwok. Trees played an important part in their religion
and even today there are villages which include "holy" trees.
Agriculture Anywaa are mainly farmers, grow most of their own food like sorghum, maize,
simsim, beans and tobacco. And also they raise cattle, goats and fowl, which are used for
trade and sacrifices to the spirits.
Marriage is expected of every adolescent. He pays bride price in demuy, cattle and sometimes
money. Marriage to blood relatives and incest is abhorred.
