The Microscope
Return Demonstration Rubric
Objective:
Assess student’s ability to properly handle a microscope and view a prepared slide from
Scanner to Low Power Objective then High Power Objective (HPO).

Materials:
Microscope
Clean Gloves
Lab Gown

Procedure:
1. The Instructor will call you one by one to assess you skills in handling the microscope. Only
one student will be allowed inside the classroom.
2. Only 5 minutes will be given to each student to perform the activity with a score maximum
of 50 points.
3. The specimen that you will use will be selected by the instructor.
4. Your time will officially start once you place the specimen on the stage of the microscope.
5. You are only allowed to adjust/calibrate the microscope once you placed the specimen on
the stage.
6. You should start viewing the specimen using the scanning objective, followed by the low
power objective and the high power objective.
7. The timer will be paused once you want your work to be checked by the Instructor.
8. A rubric will be used to rate your skills in using the microscope. You need to print the rubric
and present it to the instructor once you enter the room.
