Fractions

A fraction is a part or portion of a whole. It has two


parts

Like fractions have the same denominator.

Unlike fractions have different denominators.

Equivalent fractions

When we multiply the numerator and the denominator


of a fraction by the same number (not 0), we get an
equivalent fraction

Types of fractions

Unit fractions

A fraction with the numerator 1 is known as a unit fraction

Proper fractions

The numerator of each fraction is less than its


denominator

Improper fractions

The numerator of an improper fraction is equal to or


greater than its denominator.

Mixed fraction

A mixed fraction is made up of a whole number and a


proper fraction.
