Steven Paul Jobs (February 24, 1955 – October 5, 2011) was an iconic American

businessman, inventor, and entrepreneur who co-founded Apple Inc. and helped
pioneer the personal computer revolution. Jobs was renowned for his visionary
leadership, product design sensibility, and relentless pursuit of innovation, shaping not
only the technology industry but also the culture of consumer electronics worldwide.

Jobs was born in San Francisco and adopted shortly after birth. Growing up in
Cupertino, California, in what would become Silicon Valley, he had an early fascination
with electronics and engineering, although his academic journey was unconventional.
After briefly attending Reed College, Jobs dropped out but continued to audit classes,
particularly enjoying calligraphy, a skill that influenced the distinctive typography in
Apple products. He also traveled to India in pursuit of spiritual enlightenment and
studied Zen Buddhism, which shaped his minimalist design philosophy.

In 1976, at just 21 years old, Jobs co-founded Apple Computer with his friend Steve
Wozniak and Ronald Wayne in his family garage. They set out to make computers more
accessible to the general public. Their first product, the Apple I, was a circuit board
designed primarily for hobbyists. This was followed by the hugely successful Apple II,
one of the first mass-produced personal computers, which propelled the company into
mainstream awareness and commercial success.

Jobs was instrumental in driving forward user-friendly technology. Inspired by a visit to

Xerox PARC in 1979, he envisioned and developed the graphical user interface (GUI),
leading to products like the Apple Lisa and the breakthrough Macintosh in 1984—the
first mass-market computer featuring a GUI and a mouse, which revolutionized how
people interacted with computers.

Despite early success, Jobs’ management style led to conflicts, culminating in his
departure from Apple in 1985 after a power struggle with then-CEO John Sculley.
Undeterred, Jobs founded NeXT, a company focused on high-end computers for
education and business, which contributed key innovations in software development.
He also acquired the computer graphics division of Lucasfilm, forming Pixar Animation
Studios, which produced the first fully computer-animated film, Toy Story, and emerged
as an animation powerhouse.
Jobs returned to Apple in 1997 when the company was near bankruptcy. His comeback
marked a renaissance period for Apple, characterized by bold design, innovation, and
marketing. He partnered with designer Jony Ive and launched iconic products that
transformed consumer technology, including the iMac, iPod, iTunes, iPhone, and iPad.
These devices not only redefined their categories but also integrated hardware,
software, and services seamlessly, creating an unmatched user experience.

Known for his perfectionism, passion, and sometimes intense and demanding
leadership, Jobs cultivated a culture that valued creativity and innovation at Apple. His
emphasis on simplicity, elegant design, and intuitive user interfaces became hallmarks
of the brand.

In 2003, Jobs was diagnosed with a rare form of pancreatic cancer. Despite health
challenges and undergoing surgery and a liver transplant, he remained involved with
Apple until his resignation as CEO in August 2011. He passed away two months later at
age 56, leaving behind a profound legacy marked by 450 patents and revolutionary
contributions to computing, entertainment, communication, and digital media.

Steve Jobs is remembered as a charismatic and visionary pioneer whose ideas shaped
modern technology and changed the way people interact with digital devices. His life
story is not only the story of Apple but also a testament to creativity, resilience, and
impact on global culture and commerce [1][2][3][5][6].
