Part I: Information Sheet
Part II: Consent Form
Part I: INFORMATION SHEET
Title: Bagang: Linguistic Features of Traditional Fishing Rituals in Lake Sebu, South Cotabato
Researchers:
A. Purpose and Background
The researcher is conducting this language research study on "Bagang: Linguistic Features of Traditional
Fishing Rituals in Lake Sebu, South Cotabato." While previous works have highlighted the cultural practices of the
Tboli people, there remains a gap in scholarly research that specifically focuses on the linguistic aspects of their
fishing rituals. This study seeks to analyze the words, expressions, and patterns of speech used in the Tboli fishing
rituals of Lake Sebu and to understand their meanings and functions in preserving culture and identity. Through this,
you are identified as a potential participant who can provide meaningful insights and valuable perspectives that will
significantly contribute to the depth and authenticity of this study.
B. Procedures
If you agree to be part of this research study, the following process will take place: First, I will give you the
consent form as one of the targeted participants and discuss the agreed-upon time and place for the interview. Then,
we will have a semi-structured and confidential interview. The duration of the interview will depend on how long it
takes to complete. Moreover, the interview will be recorded in audio format to ensure quality.
C. Risks
There is a risk that you may share personal or confidential information or feel uncomfortable discussing
certain topics. However, we hope this will not be the case. You do not have to answer any questions or take part in
the discussion/interview if you find the questions too personal or if talking about them makes you uncomfortable.
D. Confidentiality
The records from this study will be kept as confidential as possible. No individual identities will be used in
any reports or publications resulting from the study. All interview answers will be given codes and stored separately
from any names or other direct identification of participants. Only the researcher will know what your number is and
will lock that information up. It will not be shared with or given to anyone. Only research personnel will have access to
the files, and only those with an essential need to see names or other identifying information will have access to that
particular file. After the study is completed, it will state who will be able to see the results and the instrument for data
gathering.
E. Benefit of Participation
The benefit you will get from participating in this study is the opportunity to gain deeper knowledge and
awareness of the linguistic features found in the traditional fishing rituals of the Tboli people in Lake Sebu. This
understanding may help you appreciate how language serves as a tool for preserving culture and identity, and how
these insights can inspire you to value, protect, and promote indigenous traditions within your community and
beyond.
