II. Questions and answers:
1. When did the speaker enjoy writing a poem?
Ans. The speaker enjoyed writing a poem from afternoon, the evening, and till
the night.
2.Who will understand the speaker’s plight? What did the speaker eat when
he could not find any breakfast?
Ans. Someone who is very hungry and needs breakfast will understand the
speaker’s plight. The speaker ate his own poem when he couldn’t find
breakfast.
III. Read the extract and refer to context.
1. “When the morning sun was rising
And the sky was growing light,
I went searching for some breakfast
But no breakfast was in sight.
a. What was rising?
Ans. The morning sun was rising.
b. What does ‘the sky was growing light’ mean?
Ans. It means that the sun was getting brighter as the day was progressing.
c. What was not in sight?
Ans. There was no breakfast in sight.
2. So, although it isn’t right,
I picked up this little poem
And I took a tiny bite.
a. What wasn’t ‘right’ and why?
Ans. Eating a poem was not right as it’s not eatable.
b. Why did the speaker pick up the poem?
Ans. The speaker picked up the poem as there was nothing which could make
him happy or feed him.
c. Did the speaker really eat a poem?
Ans. No, the speaker did not eat the poem. He just imagined himself doing it.
III. Think and write
1. Why did speaker write another poem?
Ans. When the speaker could not find his poem in the morning, he decided to
write another poem to make himself happy and suffice his hunger for writing.
Writing poems gives him immense pleasure of creativity and therefore he
indulges himself in writing from day to night.
2. The speaker finds writing poems more valuable than sleep. Do you think
that compromising our sleep or rest can give us good results?
