Overcoming Giants

The document talks about how children can overcome the "giants" in their lives with God's help, just as David did against Goliath. It presents five smooth stones that represent the qualities David had to defeat Goliath: courage, confidence, preparation, trust, and victory. Children learn that just as David trusted in God, they can also trust that God will give them victory over the problems they face.

Overcoming Giants.

Purpose: For children to learn to overcome the giants in their lives, with help
of God.
Objects: A small bag with five smooth stones; a measuring tape
1 Samuel 17:1-49

Introduction: Guess what I have in this bag. (Pause for ...

guess, and then open the bag and start taking out the stones). There are five stones
lisas. These stones make me think of something that happened in the Bible with two
men named David and Goliath.

You may already know the boy named David, who fought and killed a giant.
called Goliath. Goliath was a powerful warrior who stood almost 3 meters tall. Can
Can someone show me how tall it is? (Pause for the children to respond).
I suppose it is difficult for any of us to show that height, but
we can use a measuring tape. (Place the measuring tape on a wall to
show 2.75 meters.

Goliath was not only tall, but he also wore a strong armor all over him.

David, on the other hand, was a young shepherd. He had no armor; it was too heavy.
for him. And he had neither sword nor spear. David's weapon was a sling and his
the ammunition was five smooth stones that he picked up from a nearby stream. But David
he defeated that giant that all the Israelite soldiers were afraid to face.

We may not be facing a giant nearly three meters tall, but we

we face giants of another kind, such as insecurity, loneliness, and sadness
(you can add more examples according to age). But today, we can remember the
five stones from David to help us overcome the giants we face
we face.

I. The first stone represents COURAGE. (Pass the first stone until
that it goes around all the students). David was not afraid of
confront the enemy. 'Don't worry about anything,' David said to Saul.
I will go fight against that Philistine! (1 Samuel 17:32) Having courage you
will help you face the giants in your life.
II. The second stone represents SECURITY. (Pass the second stone
until he goes around all the students). As a shepherd, David
he protected the sheep from wild animals; that's why he felt safe
to face Goliath. "The Lord, who has saved me from the claws of the
lion and the bear, he will deliver me from this Philistine!” (1 Samuel 17:37) Just like
David, you can trust and be sure that God will help you overcome.
the problems you face.

III. The third stone represents PREPARATION. (Pass the third stone
until he goes around all the students). David did not confront the
giant without being prepared. He went to the stream and grabbed five smooth stones in
he is armed with his shepherd's staff and his sling, went to fight
against Goliath. (1 Samuel 17:40) It is important that you also prepare yourself
to face the challenges of your life, praying and reading the Bible, reviewing
the texts you have memorized.

IV. The fourth stone represents TRUST. (Pass the fourth stone until
that he would go around the circle). David did not trust his own ability.
When Goliath shouted at David, he cursed him and prepared to kill him, David
He said: "You come to me with a sword and a spear, but I come to you with
name of the Lord God Almighty". (1 Samuel 17:45) When you
face the problems, put your trust in God, not in yourself
capacity.

V. The fifth stone represents VICTORY. (Pass the fifth stone to

Let it turn for all the students). "The battle is God's, not ours."
David said. (1 Samuel 17:47) Therefore, David achieved victory over the
giant with only a stone and a sling. When you deliver your battles
To God, you will have victory over the giants in your life.

Conclusion: So the next time you face a giant in your life,

Remember David and Goliath and the five smooth stones. (Invite the children to repeat)
the words courage, security, preparation, confidence, and victory after
you).

Beloved God, just as you gave David victory in his battle against
Goliath, we know that when we place our trust in You, You will give us victory.
about the giants we face in our daily lives. In the name of Jesus,
amen.
