the following types:
 High-risk commands: Inappropriate use of such commands may cause global
service failures or loss of a large number of CDRs.
 Medium-risk commands: Inappropriate use of such commands may cause
interruption of certain services (such as services between the ME and a specific
office) or loss of a small number of CDRs or affect operation and maintenance on
all modules.
 Low-risk commands: Inappropriate use of such commands may cause certain
services to fail or certain KPIs to decrease or affect operation and maintenance on
certain modules.
 Commands not listed here do not affect services.

8.2.1 Performance Management

Principles
 Purpose

 Objects

 Principles

 Deletion of Performance Measurements from the OMU Database

 Scheduled Scanning and Deletion Principles

Purpose

Performance management provides carriers with the ability to evaluate the overall
performance of their networks and the performance of individual network elements,
and the ability to optimize network performance. Performance management
includes:
 Monitoring network running and service quality
 Identifying network congestion or interruption in a timely manner
 Removing faults
 Planning network capacity and allocating network resources effectively
 Optimizing network performance indicators

Objects

A measurement task has specific measurement objects, measurement counters,

measurement periods, and measurement units.

Principles
Figure 1 Overall architecture of the performance measurement system for the virtual
ME layer
Figure 2 Detailed architecture of the performance measurement system for the
virtual ME layer

PCDR performance call detail record

Threshold Threshold types include:
types  Threshold alarm: Thresholds are set for performance measurement
entities. When the actual value of an entity exceeds the threshold, a
threshold alarm is generated.
 Gradient alarm: Thresholds are set for the change rate of
performance measurement entities. When the actual change rate
of an entity exceeds the threshold, a gradient alarm is generated.

Deletion of Performance Measurements from the OMU Database

The system deletes the performance measurements from the OMU database when
either of the following conditions is met:
 The performance measurements have been saved for 60 days.
 The size of the table saving the performance measurements has reached 10 GB.

Scheduled Scanning and Deletion Principles

The system scans performance measurement files at regular intervals and deletes
files to free up system memory. Table 1 details the scanning and deletion principles.

 G_11: Performance management command group
Otherwise, Performance Management System is unavailable.
Data
 You have obtained the floating IP address of the OMU server.
 You have obtained a user name and its password and type from an administrator.

 If the OMU floating IP address is an IPv4 address, enter [Link] IP

address:port number/ (for example, [Link]
 If the OMU floating IP address is an IPv6 address, enter [Link] IP
address]:port/ (for example, [Link] in the address box of
your browser. The IPv6 floating IP address must be included in square brackets.
 This section takes an IPv4 floating address as an example.

Procedure

1. Open the browser, enter [Link] IP address of the OMU server:port

number in the address box, and press Enter. On the login page, enter the user

8.2.4 Measurement Management

 Creating a Measurement Task

 Deleting a Measurement Task

Creating a Measurement Task

Scenarios
The system automatically starts measuring commonly-used performance
measurement units after the OMU is started. The commonly-used performance
measurement units are provided by device vendors.
If you want to obtain other performance measurement data, create a performance
measurement task. This section takes an IP traffic measurement task as an example.
Impact on the System

After a performance measurement task is started, the system continuously collects

performance measurement data, which consumes system resources. Running a large
number of performance measurement tasks concurrently may cause the system to
respond slowly to bearer service requests. To prevent any adverse impacts, observe
the following rules:
 Create performance measurement tasks only when required. Delete performance
measurement tasks when they are not needed any more. For details about how
to delete a performance measurement task, see Deleting a Measurement Task.
 Do not set the measurement period too short. It is recommended that you set the
measurement period to 1 hour.
Procedure
1. Click Measurement on the menu bar. Double-click IP Traffic Measurement. Set
the measurement period in the Measurement page displayed.
2. Add, delete, or query measurement objects (configuration objects or customized
objects) on the Measurement Object page.

You do not need to add default measurement objects and global measurement objects
when creating measurement tasks.
Deleting a Measurement Task

Scenarios
Delete a performance measurement task if it is not needed any more.
Deleting an IP traffic measurement task is taken as an example.
Impact on the System
The system does not check whether the preset thresholds are reached after
measurement tasks are deleted.
Procedure
1. Click Measurement on the menu bar. Double-click IP Traffic Measurement. The
Measurement page is displayed.
2. Deselect the measurement period for IP Traffic Measurement in the
Measurement Unit/Period pane delete the measurement task.

8.2.5 Querying Measurement Results

 Scenarios

 Impact on the System

 Procedure

Scenarios
You can set search criteria and query performance measurements based on the
search criteria. Querying Performance Measurement of Virtual Machine Memory is
taken as an example.

Impact on the System

After you add, delete, or modify customized measurement entities or measurement

objects, double-click the measurement units to reload the query pages and refresh
the measurement task information.

Procedure

1. Click Query on the menu bar. Double-click Performance Measurement of

Virtual Machine Memory. The Query page is displayed.

2. Set search criteria to query measurement results.

The system can display a maximum of 10,800 records at a time. "--" indicates
performance indicators that the VNFC does not support.
Continuity

Segment

3. Check the measurement results about 10 minutes after the measurement period
ends.

The performance measurement results in a maximum of 300 measurement periods can

be displayed in a graph.
Parent Topic: Performance Management Description

< Previous topic

8.2.6 Exporting Measurement Results

 Scenarios

 Impact on the System

 Procedure

Scenarios
The measurement results collected 60 days ago are overwritten by the latest
measurement results. You can export measurement results from the OMU to a local
PC in a timely manner to prevent loss of data.
Exporting the IP traffic measurement results is taken as an example.

Impact on the System

Exporting measurement results consumes a lot of CPU resources and memory

resources. One measurement result export task is recommended at a time.
The system exports performance measurement results at 2:07 in the early morning
by default. If multiple scheduled export tasks are implemented and a large amount
of data is exported, the CPU usage and memory usage of the system will be high in a
short period of time.

Procedure

1. Click Export on the menu bar. Double-click IP Traffic Measurement. The Export
page is displayed.

A maximum of 40,000 records can be saved.

4294967295 in the measurement result indicates unsupported performance counters.

2. Set parameters and click Submit to export measurement results to the

Scheduled Exports measurement results of a specified period of time at a scheduled time.

Export For example, you can create a scheduled export task to enable the system to
automatically export the CPU usage of the period from 10:00 through 12:00
to a specified directory at 02:07 in the early morning. The system takes
about 10 minutes to export the CPU usage.
3. Log in to the Huawei Operation & Maintenance System, and use the FTP tool to
export measurement results to the local PC.

8.2.7 Setting Thresholds

 Scenarios

 Impact on the System

 Principles

 Procedure

Scenarios

You can set a threshold for a measurement entity. When the threshold is reached,
the system automatically reports an alarm, reminding you of performance
deterioration, which may be caused by faults hidden in devices or inappropriate
adjustment of networks.
Setting thresholds for IP traffic measurement is taken as an example.

Impact on the System

For non-default objects and automatic scalable objects, if the measurement objects
of the threshold alarm are deleted, the threshold will be deleted automatically.

Principles

Observe the following principles when you set or change the threshold for a
measurement entity:
 Do not set thresholds for customized measurement entities.
 Create a threshold alarm task and a gradient alarm task for the same
measurement entity of the same type of measurement object of a managed
element (ME).
 Adjust thresholds based on customer requirements or the historical data of live
networks.
 Adjust thresholds based on the historical data of regions or cities. The
measurement indicators of the same region or city are relatively stable, but the
measurement indicators of different regions or cities may vary.
 Update the thresholds for voice traffic and data traffic monthly based on the
traffic changes. You can set thresholds based on the lowest traffic, but you may
miss detecting peak-traffic hours.
 Define the midnight based on the traffic at sites. You can also define different
daytime and nighttime for voice service and data service.
 Set multiple thresholds and alarm severities for a key performance indicator (KPI)
if necessary. For example, you can configure the system to report a major alarm
when the S-CSCF registration success rate reaches 90%, and report a critical alarm
when the S-CSCF registration success rate falls to 80%.
 Set thresholds for KPIs pertaining to sessions, registrations, and network statuses,
for example, initial registration success rate, network connection success rate,
and network interruption rate.
 Set thresholds for resources, such as the resources required for processing
network traffic, and set thresholds for the capacity of network devices.
 Do not set thresholds for the measurement entities that are counted by the
number of times. You can check the change of such measurement entities using a
visualization tool. You can compare the values of the same day or the same time
segment during a certain period of time.

Procedure

1. Click Threshold Setting on the menu bar. Double-click IP Traffic Measurement.

The Threshold Setting page is displayed.
2. Click Add on the Threshold Setting page. Add a threshold in the ADD Alarm
dialog box.
3. You can also select a threshold and modify or delete the threshold on the
Threshold Setting page.

8.2.8 Customizing Measurement Entities

 Scenarios

 Impact on the System

 Principles

 Procedure

Scenarios

You can customize measurement entities using the four fundamental operations of
arithmetic if the existing measurement entities in the performance management
system cannot satisfy your requirements. You can create tasks to monitor your
customized measurement entities.
Customizing measurement entities for IP traffic measurement is taken as an
example.

Impact on the System

The formula for calculating a customized measurement entity cannot exceed 128
characters in length, and the value for each parameter and measurement entity in
the formula must be within the range of 0 to 2147483647. If the base figure for
calculation is too large, the value of the customized measurement entity may exceed
the value range. If so, querying the database fails.
A measurement unit can have a maximum of 50 customized measurement entities.
Otherwise, system performance deteriorates.

Principles

Observe the following principles when customizing a measurement entity:

 Add a customized measurement entity to the measurement unit of the original
measurement entity.
 Do not use a customized measurement entity to compute other customized
measurement entities.
 The original measurement entity is measured when its customized measurement
entity is measured.
 The measurement of the original measurement entity does not stop even if the
measurement of its customized measurement entity stops.
 Do not stop measuring the original measurement entity if its customized
measurement entity is being measured.
 You can leave the measurement entity ID unspecified when you import
customized performance entities. The system determines whether a
measurement entity exists based on the entity name and formula.
 If measurement entities have the same name but different formula, the system
reminds you of changing the entity name.
 Do not set the name of a customized measurement entity to be the same as the
name of the original measurement entity or other customized measurement
entities of the same measurement unit. Otherwise, the system reminds you of
changing the entity name. The measurement entities of different measurement
units can have the same name.

Procedure

1. Click Customized Entity on the menu bar. Double-click IP Traffic Measurement.

The Customized Entity page is displayed.
2. Click Add on the Add Customized Entity page to add customized entities.
3. You can also select a customized entity and use the buttons displayed to modify,
delete, or query the customized entity.

8.3.1 KPI Monitoring

 Purposes

 Objects

 KPI Monitoring Principles

 Principles for Saving KPI Monitoring Result in the OMU Database

 Principles for Scheduled Scanning and Deletion of KPI Monitoring-related Files on the OMU System

Purposes

Carriers monitor the key performance indicators (KPIs) of devices and perform
operations based on the monitoring results to ensure system reliability. When the
value of a KPI, such as the call success rate, reaches a preset threshold, the system
reports an alarm to notify carriers of the abnormality. In some cases, the system
automatically demarcates or locates faults and recovers services.

Objects

The objects to be monitored include:

 Measurement objects: A measurement object can be an ME, a process, or an
office direction.
 Measurement units: A measurement unit is a collection of a type of KPI, such as I-
CSCF SIP Message Measurement.
 KPIs: A KPI, such as Number of I-CSCF Initial Invite Requests Received, indicates
the performance value of an object at a certain time point.

KPI Monitoring Principles

Figure 1 KPI monitoring principles

Principles for Saving KPI Monitoring Result in the OMU Database

The system stores at most 2 GB KPI monitoring results generated within the latest
seven days. Specifically:

The seven-day period starts backwards from yesterday. For example, if the current day is the
21th day in a month, the seven-day period starts backwards from the 20th day to the 14th
day in this month.

 The system does not save the KPI monitoring results generated within the days
earlier than the seven-day period.
 When the system checks that the KPI monitoring results generated within a
seven-day period occupy more than 90% of the hard disk space, it deletes the KPI
monitoring results for the earliest day. The system repeats this operation until the
results occupy less than 90% of the hard disk space.

Principles for Scheduled Scanning and Deletion of KPI Monitoring-related Files on the OMU System

The system regularly scans KPI monitoring-related files and deletes files to free up
system memory. Table 1 details the scanning and deletion principles.
