5. Find the inverse Z-transform of (𝑧−1)(𝑧 2+1).

6. Solve 𝑦𝑛+2 + 6𝑦𝑛+1 + 9 𝑦𝑛 = 2𝑛 with 𝑦0 = 𝑦1 = 0, using Z-transform.

7. Find the response of the system 𝑦𝑛+2 − 5𝑦𝑛+1 + 6 𝑦𝑛 = 𝑢𝑛 with 𝑦0 = 𝑦1 = 1, and
𝑢𝑛 = 1 for 𝑛 = 0, 1, 2, 3, … using Z-transform method.
8. Using Z-transform, solve 𝑢𝑛+2 − 2𝑢𝑛+1 + 𝑢𝑛 = 3𝑛 + 5.

𝑦(0) = 𝑦(1) = 0.
10. A light string stretched between two fixed nails 120 cm apart, carries 11 loads of
weight 5 gm each at equal intervals and the resulting tension is 500 gm weight. Show
that the sag at the mid-point is 1.8 cm. Hints: Solve 𝑦𝑖+2 − 2𝑦𝑖+1 + 𝑦𝑖 = −0.1 given
that 𝑦0 = 0 and 𝑦12 = 0.
11. Find the difference equation satisfied by 𝑦 = 𝑎𝑥 2 − 𝑏𝑥.
12. Derive the difference equation by eliminating the constants from 𝑦𝑛 = (𝑎 + 𝑏𝑥)2𝑥 .
13. The integers 0, 1, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 13, 21, … are said to form a Fibonacci sequence. Form
the Fibonacci difference equation and solve it.
