1.0 SUBJECT REFLECTION

1. What have you learned from this subject?

From the MGT400 course, I have learned a solid understanding of management
principles, including how firms are structured, how managers make decisions, and how
leadership is critical to achieving goals. I learned about the development of
management theory from classical to contemporary methods, such as systems theory,
administrative theory, and scientific management. I have a better understanding of
management's day-to-day application in actual firms after learning about its history
over time. It will help me in my future career.
2. What are the key elements from this subject that you can apply in your daily life?
Key areas I can apply are decision-making strategies, time management, human
behavior in teams, and communication. The Theory Y concept reminds me to believe
in other individuals' capabilities, while ideas like planning, organizing, and evaluating
outcomes help in setting personal objectives and resolving issues. The awareness of the
necessity for structure and flexibility helps me in being capable of adjusting to change
in academic and everyday situations.
3. What are the skills acquired from this subject?
This course has provided me with analytical, organizational, leadership, and critical
thinking skills. I learned to analyze situations from various perspectives and apply
appropriate management theories to address them. It also enhanced my skill in
analyzing alternatives, group work, and logical reasoning in problem-solving. These
skills can be applied both in the professional and personal contexts, especially in
decision-making and problem-solving processes.

4. Will you be using this skill in the future?

Yes. What I'm learning in this course is not just academic—this is a collection of
employable skills that I will apply to my career and daily life. In every workplace or
leadership role, I will need to plan, direct, organize, and control resources efficiently,
all of which are fundamental management functions learned in MGT400. I will also use
my knowledge of organizational behavior and motivation to enhance team
management, make more effective decisions, and maintain good working conditions.

5. What are the benefits that you have obtained from this subject?
One of the best strengths of this subject is that it gave me a structured understanding of
how organizations function and how effective managers cause performance and morale.
Now I understand the importance of planning, leadership, communication, and
employee motivation. Another strength is that I could relate real-life business problems
to management theory, which made my strategic thinking stronger. These learnings will
help me fit in nicely in the work environment and be an asset to any organization.

6. What do you like best about this subject?

My most favorite aspect of this subject is its practicality and the variety of management
styles it covers. I enjoyed studying the history of the development of management and
how it continues to influence current practices. The use of everyday examples and case
studies, such as those of Google and Southwest Airlines, made the theories more
fascinating and easy to associate with. It gave me a clearer understanding of how
successful organizations operate.

7. What do you like least about this subject?

What I liked least about this subject matter is that some parts, especially those related
to older management concepts like bureaucracy, were somewhat redundant and dry.
While historically interesting, these parts were less stimulating than more modern,
interactive examples. Some of the slides had a lot of text, and this made them harder to
read. A more interactive presentation involving videos or live simulations would have
made these parts more stimulating and relevant.

8. Which chapter is your favourite in this subject and why?

My personal favorite is Chapter 4, decision-making, creativity, and entrepreneurship.
It brings the theoretical aspect of management into congruence with innovation and
problem-solving in real life. The six-step decision process and discussing biases were
especially insightful. I liked how it balanced creativity with logic and explained how
both have crucial roles to play in good leadership. It was highly practical in real life and
made me more discerning in considering the decisions I make.

5
9. Do you think the delivery of this subject was effective and interesting?
Yes, I believe that the delivery of the topic worked and was engaging. The use of visual
aids, everyday examples, and interactive conversation made the theories easier to grasp.
The lectures were properly organized, and the tests helped us to practice what we had
studied. I particularly liked the mix of traditional teaching and group learning that made
the sessions engaging and interactive. Overall, the presentation kept me interested and
engaged all the way through the course.

10. Any suggestion for improvement for this subject?

To make the topic more student-centered and interactive, I suggest incorporating more
of such items as real-life simulations, group decision-making tasks, and multimedia.
Case-based learning and industry guest lecturers could be used to aid better
understanding of complex topics. Also, ending each topic with applicable takeaways or
weekly reflection tasks would allow students to implement what they've learned more
effectively. These changes would make the subject more interesting and effective.
