Questionnaire for Data Collection

IUBAT Environmental Management Plan (EMP)

Introduction: This questionnaire is designed to collect essential data for

developing a robust and implementable Environmental Management Plan
(EMP) for IUBAT. The detailed input will help to assess the current
environmental footprint of the university and create strategies for a more
sustainable and green campus.

Please provide the most accurate information available.

Part A: General Information

Name of Respondent:
Position/Designation:
Department/Office:
Date:

A. Energy Management

Objective: To understand energy consumption patterns and identify efficiency

opportunities.

1) What is the primary source of electricity for the campus? (e.g., DESCO,
Solar, Generator)
2) What is the average monthly electricity consumption (in kWh)? (Please
provide utility bills for the last 12 months if possible).
3) Is there a centralized building management system or smart metering
to monitor energy use?
4) What percentage of campus lighting uses LED technology?
5) Does the university have any solar power installations? If yes, what is
the capacity (kW) and what percentage of demand does it meet?
6) What is the fuel type (Diesel/CNG) and capacity of backup generators?
7) What are the standard operating hours for air conditioning and lighting
in academic buildings?
8) Are there any ongoing energy conservation programs or policies?
B. Water Management

Objective: To assess water usage and wastewater management.

1. What are the sources of water for the campus? (e.g., WASA,
Deep Tube Wells, Rainwater Harvesting). Please specify the
primary source.
2. What is the average daily/monthly water consumption (in liters)?
3. Are water-efficient fixtures (e.g., low-flow taps, dual-flush toilets)
installed across campus?
4. Is there a system for rainwater harvesting? If yes, what is the
storage capacity and how is the water used?
5. Is there a wastewater treatment plant (ETP/STP) on campus? If
yes, what is its capacity and what is the treated water used for?
6. How is stormwater drainage managed? Are there any recurring
flooding issues?

C. Waste Management

Objective: To analyze waste generation and disposal practices.

1. Solid Waste:
 What is the estimated quantity of general solid waste generated per
day (in kg)?
 Is waste segregated at the source (e.g., bins for recyclables, organic,
general waste)? If yes, where is it implemented?
 Does the university have a formal recycling program? What
materials are recycled (paper, plastic, glass, e-waste)?
 How is organic waste from the cafeteria and landscaping handled?
(e.g., composted, disposed of).
 Who is the formal waste collection vendor? What is the final disposal
method (e.g., landfill, incineration)?
2. Hazardous Waste:
 Which departments generate hazardous chemical/biological waste?
(e.g., Engineering Labs, Chemistry Labs, Nursing Dept.)
 How is hazardous waste currently stored, labeled, and disposed of?
 Is there a specific protocol or person responsible for managing
hazardous waste?
D. Air Quality & Noise Pollution

Objective: To identify sources of pollution and control measures.

1. What are the primary sources of dust on campus? (e.g., construction,

unpaved areas).
2. Are there measures to control dust from construction sites (e.g., water
spraying, covering materials)?
3. What is the estimated number of vehicles (cars, motorcycles, buses)
entering the campus daily?
4. Are there idling policies for vehicles on campus?
5. Are there any notable internal sources of noise pollution? (e.g.,
generators, HVAC systems, workshops).
6. Are noise levels monitored, especially near academic buildings and
hostels?

E. Biodiversity & Land Use (Green Spaces)

Objective: To invent green assets and landscaping practices.

1. Approximately what percentage of the total campus area is dedicated

to green spaces (lawns, gardens, etc.)?
2. Does landscaping primarily use native plant species?
3. Is there a dedicated garden or compost area?
4. Are there any policies against the use of chemical pesticides/fertilizers?
5. Does the campus have any significant trees or habitats that support
local fauna (birds, squirrels)?

F. Transportation

Objective: To understand commuting patterns and promote sustainable

transport.

1. What percentage of students/staff use the following modes of

transport:
 Public Bus, Ridesharing (e.g., Pathao, Uber)
 Private Car/Motorcycle
 Walking/Cycling
 University Bus Service
2. Does the university provide a bus service? If yes, how many buses and
what is the fuel type?
3. Are there adequate and secure bicycle parking facilities?
4. Are there any initiatives to promote carpooling or cycling?
G. Education, Awareness & Community Engagement

Objective: To gauge environmental awareness and curriculum integration.

1. Are there any courses or modules specifically focused on

environmental management or sustainability?
2. Do student clubs (e.g., Environmental Club) organize activities like tree
plantation, clean-up drives, or awareness seminars?
3. How often are environmental awareness campaigns conducted?
4. Are there communication channels (notice boards, newsletters, social
media) dedicated to sustainability updates?

H. Emergency Preparedness & Safety

Objective: To review protocols for environmental emergencies.

1. Is there a documented Emergency Response Plan (ERP) for incidents

like chemical spills, fire, or natural disasters?
2. How often are fire drills and evacuation exercises conducted?
3. Are there clearly marked emergency exits and assembly points?
4. Is there a first-aid station or medical center on campus? Is it
adequately equipped?

I. Administration & Compliance

Objective: To understand the governance structure for environmental

management.

1. Is there a designated Environmental Management Representative

(EMR) or committee?
2. Does the university hold all necessary environmental clearances and
certificates (e.g., from DoE, Fire Service, RAJUK)?
3. What is the annual budget allocated for environmental management
and sustainability projects?
