Why Condenser Flow Rate Is 3

The document explains the calculation of condenser flow rate, which is determined to be 3.0 GPM per ton based on a cooling load of 1 ton. It assumes a heat conversion efficiency of 90% and uses specific formulas to derive the flow rate. The final calculation results in a flow rate of approximately 3.01 GPM per ton, confirming the 3.0 GPM standard.

WHY CONDENSER FLOW RATE IS 3.

0 GPM PER TON

Assume

Cooling Load = 1 Ton

Assume 1.0 kw /Ton for older WC chillers

Assume 90% conversion to heat of compression

HR = 1 Ton + 90%*(1 kW x 1 Ton/3.517) = 1.2559 Tons

1.2559 Tons = GPM x (10 deg F)/24

Solving for GPM

GPM = 1.2843 * (24/10) = 3.01 gpm/ton
