Manual Organization
This is a short tutorial explaining the steps necessary to update the firmware in a
C-Nav5000TM GNSS receiver using any C-Nav software: C-NaviGator III, C-Setup,
C-Scape, or Oceaneering® C-Monitor® QA/QC software. Sections are organized in a
manner that facilitates quick operator orientation.
Section 1 - Overview (Page 7) gives a brief overview of the purpose of this document.
Section 2 – Firmware Update Installation Procedure (Page 8) lists the procedure to
update the firmware in a C-Nav5000TM GNSS receiver.

Manual Conventions
Arial font is used for plain text in this document.

Section 1 - Overview
Introduction
This is a short tutorial explaining the steps necessary to update the firmware in a
C-Nav5000TM GNSS receiver using C-Nav software: C-NaviGator III, C-Setup, C-Scape,
or C-Monitor® QA/QC software.

C-Setup / C-Monitor / C-Scape
1. Obtain the latest C-Nav5000TM GNSS receiver firmware update files and
documentation from C-Nav Support.
2. Extract the entire contents of the ZIP file to a new folder on the local hard drive.
Thoroughly review the included documentation before proceeding.
3. Connect C-Setup / C-Monitor / C-Scape to the C-Nav5000TM GNSS receiver’s
COM1, COM2, COM3, COM4, ETH (TCP only) or USB port. Make sure the
receiver’s antenna is connected and located in an area where it can track
satellites.
Warning:
Use only the latest version of controller software to perform the firmware
update procedure. Controller software is available for download from
[Link]
resources/.
4. After C-Setup / C-Monitor / C-Scape establishes communication with the
receiver, access the Firmware Update page from the Device menu.
5. Press Select Package and open the *.s19 file extracted from the ZIP file.

6. The *.s19 file is a unified file that contains update programs for several receiver
components. Ensure that all components read “Yes” in the Update? column
before proceeding. Use Toggle Component to enable components that read
“No”.
7. Press Start Update to begin the firmware update. A progress bar will indicate
the status of each component as the firmware is loaded.

Warning:
Allow approximately 20-25 minutes for the firmware update to complete. Do
not power off or disconnect the receiver while the firmware update is in
progress.
8. The following alert will appear after all components are loaded. Press OK to
power cycle the receiver.
9. Verify all components read “Success” in the Status column then press Ok to exit
the Firmware Update page.

The C-Nav5000TM GNSS receiver may require 10-20 minutes to begin
navigating after the firmware update.

C-NaviGator III
1. Obtain the latest C-Nav5000TM GNSS receiver firmware update files and
documentation from C-Nav Support.
2. Extract the entire contents of the ZIP file to a new folder on the local hard drive.
Thoroughly review the included documentation before proceeding.
3. Copy the C-Nav5000_vX.X.X_UFL.s19 file to the root directory (e.g.
E:\C-Nav5000_vX.X.X_UFL.s19) of a USB drive (>100 MB) formatted as FAT
(not NTFS). Ensure the computer has finished writing to the USB drive (use the
Safely Remove Hardware tray icon if necessary) then remove the USB drive from
the computer.
4. Attach the USB drive to the C-NaviGator III CDU.
5. Connect the C-NaviGator III CDU to the C-Nav5000TM GNSS receiver’s COM1,
COM2, COM3, COM4, or USB port. Make sure the receiver’s antenna is
connected and located in an area where it can track satellites.

6. After the C-NaviGator III CDU establishes communication with the receiver,
access the Firmware Update page.

7. Press Select Package then tap to highlight the appropriate USB drive. Press
Select Drive to open the USB drive. The C-NaviGator III CDU will scan the USB
drive and list available firmware update packages. Tap to highlight the
appropriate firmware update package and press Select Package.
8. The *.s19 file is a unified file that contains update programs for several receiver
components. Ensure that all components read “Yes” in the Update? column
before proceeding. Use Toggle Component to enable components that read
“No”.
9. Press Start Update to begin the firmware update. A progress bar will indicate
the status as the firmware is loaded in each component.
