Incinerator, ECR Unit Cooler, Heaters, Coolers,
Electrical Motors, Electrical Transformers, Lathe
Machine, Drilling Machine, Welding Machine, Grinders,
Steam Turbines, Calorifier, Hydrophores, ER Crane,
Scrubber, Blowers, Supply Fans, Exhaust Fans, Fire
Fighting Equipment.
All Ships do not have the same Layout of Machineries in
the Engine Room. They differ from Ship to Ship. Sea
Water Pumps are mostly located on the Bottommost
platform of a Ship for good suction head. Also, non-
critical pumps and machineries may be fitted on the
bottom platform as these machineries are the first one
to get compromised in case of flooding of ER.
Critical Machineries such as Power Generators are
located on upper platforms. Engine Control Room is
located on the highest platform possible to monitor the
Flooding as much as possible.
Double Bottom Tanks below the ER Bottom Platforms :
Fuel Oil Overflow Tank to collect any overflow of Fuel
Diesel or Gas Oil Tank Port and Starboard
Oily Bilge Tank to collect waste leakages of Oil
Main Engine Lube Oil Sump for lubricating ME
Lube Oil Drain to collect Good Leakages of Oil
Bilge Holding Tank for collecting ER Bilges
Stuffing Box Lube Oil Tank to collect leakage from SB
Scavenge Drain Tank to collect waste from Scavenge
3 Bilge Wells – Port, Starboard and Aft
Stern Tube Lube Oil Drain tank for Stern Tube Lube Oil
Cofferdam
Fuel Oil Drain Tank to collect Leakages from Fuel
System
Pumps n Machineries on ER Bottom Platform :
1) Main Sea Water Pumps 1 and 2 for supplying water
to Main Coolers and Main Condensers. One of these
Pump may be used as an Emergency Bilge Pump in case
of Engine Room Flooding.
2) Aux Sea Water Pumps 1 and 2 for supplying water to
Auxiliary Machinery Coolers and Condensers.
3) Fire, GS and Ballast Pumps 1 and 2 for fighting Fire,
General Service of Water and for Ballasting Tanks.
4) Heavy Oil, Diesel Oil and Lube Oil Transfer Pumps to
transfer Oils
5) Main Engine Lube Oil Pumps 1 and 2 for lubricating
parts of Main Propulsion Engine.
6) Vacuum Condenser Sea Water Pump for Condenser
of Turbines
7) Scrubber Pump for Inert Gas System Scrubber Tower
8) Deck Seal Pumps 1 and 2 for Inert Gas System Deck
Seal on Deck.
9) Lube Oil Purifier Feed Supply Pumps 1 and 2
10) Oily Water Separator with its Pumps and
accessories to Pump out Bilge Holding Tank through
Fifteen ppm Separator.
11) Bilge Pump to transfer Bilges to Bilge Holding Tank.
12) Sludge Pump for Waste Oil Incinerator
13) Main Propulsion Machinery Bottom part Crankcase
and Air Cooler.
14) Sea Chests on either side.
15) Fresh Water Generator Ejector Pump normally
fitted on the opposite side of Tank Cleaning and
Sewage and Dirty Discharges because it sucks in water
meant for Drinking purpose.
16) ME Jacket Water Drain Pump and Tank
17) ME Air Cooler Cleaning Pump and Tank
18) Stern Tube Lube Oil Pump 1 and 2
19) Ballast Water Treatment System
20) ME Driven Shaft Generator
ER 2nd / 3rd Deck Platform Machineries :
1) Sewage Treatment Plant for treating Sewage
2) Auxiliary Generators for generating Electricity on
board. They are generally located up in a raised
location at the aft of this Deck to protect them from
Engine Room flooding as most likely the Flooding will
start from bottom and also the aft end is subject to
reduced impact of local loads as compared to fore part
due to Pounding / Whipping / Slapping / Panting from
the Waves. It ensures that there will not be an
immediate shutdown or blackout if ER starts to flood
and we can have time to use the Emergency Bilge
Suction.
3) Fresh Water Generator and its accessories such as
Distillate Pump
4) Boiler Feed Pumps 1 and 2
5) Turbine Feed Pumps 1 and 2
6) Turbine Condensate Pumps 1 and 2
7) Turbine Vacuum Pumps 1 and 2
8) Main or Auxiliary Boilers
9) Main Engine Scavenge / Liner Area
10) Various Coolers and Condensers and Hot Filter Tank
11) ME Jacket Water Cooling Pumps 1 and 2
12) Fuel Oil Service and Settling Tanks
13) Fuel Oil, Diesel Oil and Lube Oil Purifers
14) Fuel Oil, Diesel Oil Purifiers Feed Supply Pumps
15) ME Fuel Oil Supply and Circulating Pumps
16) Fuel Oil Heaters
17) Exhaust Gas Boiler Water Circulating Pumps
18) Turbines for Cargo Pumps / Alternator
19) Hydraulic System for Cargo Valves
20) ME Auxiliary Blowers
ER Upper Deck / 1st Deck Platform :
