Experiment 1: Create type 2 virtualization in VMWARE or any equivalent Open Source Tool.

Allocatememory and storage space as per requirement. Install Guest OS on that VMWARE.

Aim

To create a Type 2 virtualization environment using VMware Workstation / Oracle VirtualBox (or any
equivalent open-source tool), allocate CPU, memory, and storage resources, and install a Guest
Operating System on the virtual machine.

Algorithm (Logical Steps)

1. Start

2. Launch VMware Workstation / Oracle VirtualBox on the host machine.

3. Select the option to create a new virtual machine.

4. Provide details of the Guest OS (name, type, and version).

5. Allocate resources (CPU, memory, and virtual disk space).

6. Attach the Guest OS installation media (ISO file).

7. Power on the virtual machine.

8. Install the Guest Operating System.

9. Verify successful installation.

10. End

Procedure (Detailed)

Step 1: Open Virtualization Software

1. Start VMware Workstation (or Oracle VirtualBox).

2. Click on Create a New Virtual Machine.

Step 2: VM Configuration

3. Choose the configuration type (Typical/Custom).

4. Select installation media as an ISO image file.

5. Enter Guest OS details (e.g., Linux → Ubuntu 64-bit).

Step 3: Resource Allocation

6. Enter a name for the VM and choose a location for VM files.

7. Allocate resources:

o CPU → assign the required number of cores.

o Memory (RAM) → allocate as per Guest OS requirement (e.g., 2 GB or more).

o Storage (HDD/SSD) → create a virtual disk (e.g., 20 GB dynamically allocated).

Step 4: Network & Hardware Settings

8. Choose network mode (NAT, Bridged, or Host-Only).

9. Optionally configure USB, audio, and display settings.

Step 5: Install Guest Operating System

10. Power on the VM.

11. The system boots from the ISO image.

12. Follow the Guest OS installation wizard:

o Select language and region.

o Configure partitions (automatic/guided recommended).

o Enter user details (username, password, hostname).

o Install system files and wait for completion.

13. Restart the VM and boot into the installed Guest OS.

Step 6: Post-Installation

14. Install VMware Tools (or Guest Additions in VirtualBox) for better performance.

15. Test the Guest OS functionality (network access, file system, applications).

Sample Output:

Result

A Type 2 virtualization environment was successfully created using VMware Workstation / Oracle
VirtualBox. Memory and storage resources were allocated as required, and the Guest Operating
System was installed and verified successfully.
