MAGICAL SQUARES.

The composition of numerical magic squares is a

entertainment that has always been liked by mathematicians (both
formerly as in the present). This entertainment consists of

In 1531, the alchemist Agrippa, convicted of witchcraft, publishes
in his book 'Of Occult Philosophy, Three Books', the construction of the
magic squares of 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, and 9 which were associated with the
seven known planets of their time (Saturn, Jupiter, Mars, Sun, Venus,
Mercury and Moon.
Subsequently mathematicians of the stature of Fermat, Euler, Lucas, ...
they established many of the properties of magic squares.

Among the many and different ways to build them, we are going to see
some of them. One for odd number squares and another for
squares of even numbers.

For squares of odd numbers.

To construct magic squares of odd-numbered squares (3 x 3,

5 x 5, 7 x 7, 9 x 9, ...), we will proceed as follows.

1. We build the board of the magic square to be created, in this

case of 3 x 3.

2. On the central square of each side we add a new one.

checked diamond.

to build it and for that, the first thing we must do is to build the

Other changes to rows or columns can be made and in this way

Another way would be to start placing the numbers by any of

the other corners and, upper or lower, to then carry out the
indicated steps.

Do you think we will obtain other magic squares in these cases?

And if we used other numbers?
