CVAT Annotation Guide for Barrel Racing

The CVAT Annotation Test Guide provides detailed instructions for annotators on how to complete barrel racing and bull & bronc riding annotation tasks. It outlines steps such as creating an account, watching a training video, and specific requirements for drawing bounding boxes and keypoints for various objects. Additionally, it emphasizes the importance of tight, axis-aligned bounding boxes and proper labeling techniques for accurate annotations.

CVAT Annotation Test Guide for Annotators

Follow these steps to complete the CVAT annotation task professionally and efficiently:

Drive link : Barrel Racing Annotation

1. Create an Account: Begin by creating a new account on the CVAT platform if

you do not already have one.
2. Log In to CVAT: Access the CVAT website and log in using your account
credentials.
3. Watch the KT Video: Review the Knowledge Transfer (KT) video on how to set
up a CVAT task and upload videos. Use the provided link: [link- Barrel Racing
Annotation ]
4. Create Task and Start Annotation: Following the instructions in the KT video,
create a new task in CVAT and begin the annotation process.
5. Annotation Requirements:
a. Draw bounding box and keypoints for the rider.
b. Draw bounding box and keypoints for the bull/horse.
6. Record a 30-Minute Annotation Video: While annotating, record a screen
recording of your work for the full 30 minutes.
7. Complete 6-Frame Annotation: Ensure that you complete the annotation of at
least 6 frames within the 30-minute timeframe.
8. Provide Deliverables: After completing the annotation, share the 30-minute
screen recording video via a Google Drive link. Additionally, provide your CVAT
account ID and password for verification purposes.

Annotation Rules

Barrel Racing Annotation (BRA)

In the Rodeo Video Labeling task, annotators must draw tight, axis-aligned
bounding boxes around horses, riders (separately from horses even when
mounted), and each of the three (3) barrels and two (2) tripods. Boxes should follow
object edges closely, remain separate even when overlapping, and cover only the
visible portion of an object in cases of partial occlusion.

What to Label?
Horse (Yellow) – Draw a bounding box around each horse (NOT INCLUDING THE
TAIL!).
1. Rider/Person (Blue) – Draw a bounding box around each rider.
Riders sitting on horses must still be labeled separately.
Barrels (Pink)- Label all three (3) barrels in the arena with individual bounding
boxes.
Tripod (Violet) - Label the two (2) parallel tripods in the arena with individual
bounding boxes.

Bounding Box Guidelines
Tightness:
Boxes must be tight and axis-aligned (vertical/horizontal).
Avoid including background; edges should align with the object's visible boundaries.
Include ALL parts, except the shadow.

Overlapping Objects:
Riders and horses should always have separate boxes, even if overlapping.
Similarly, label barrels and horses separately, even when overlapping.

Partial Occlusion:
Draw a single bounding box covering the visible part of the object.
DO NOT split one object into multiple boxes, even if partially hidden
Bull & Bronc Riding Annotation (BBA)
In the Bull & Bronc Riding Annotation task, annotators must draw tight, axis-aligned
bounding boxes for each rider, bronc horse/bull, non-bucking horse, and pickup
rider. Rider requires 13 keypoints and each bull/horse requires 19 keypoints, placed
accurately, estimated if occluded, and flagged for visibility (grey = hide; colored =
unhide).
( occluded part doesn’t need to be hidden in this annotation test)

Bull & Bronc Annotation

What to Label?
For Bounding Box, label each per frame:
Bronc horse/Bull (NOT INCLUDING TAIL!)
Non-bucking horse (NOT INCLUDING TAIL!)
Rider
Pickup Rider

Bounding Box Guideline

● Do NOT merge rider and animal into one bounding box. Even when the rider is
on top of the bull/horse, label them separately.
● Tightness: Boxes must be axis-aligned (vertical/horizontal) and tightly fit the
object's visible extent. This is similar to Barrel Racing Annotation.
● Avoid background space.

● Thrown Riders: If the rider is thrown from the animal, continue to annotate
separate boxes for the rider and the animal.
● Include ALL parts, except the shadow and tail.

For Keypoints, label each per frame:

Bronc horse (19 parts)
Non-bucking horse (19 parts)
Bull (19 parts)
Rider (13 parts)
Pickup Rider (13 parts)
