Can be done by copying,
downloading , sharing, selling
or installing multiple copies
onto personal or work
computers.
Making more copies of the software than the
license permits=PIRACY
Computer software is a new form of intellectual
property.
Stealing this property is no different than
stealing any other form of copyrighted content,
and the punishment for doing so is the same.

Legal Aspects of Software Piracy
Copyright Act of 1957
The amendments to the Copyright Act in 1994 The
Copyright (Amendment) Act 1994, clearly explains the
rights of copyright holder .
According to Section 63 of the Act, there is a
minimum jail term of 6 months for copyright
infringement.
Section 64 of the Copyright Act empowers any police officer
to seize without warrant infringing copies
Conspiring to cheat both the government and copyright
owner as well as the public , hence they are liable for
prosecution under Section 120 B r/w 420 IPC.
Those who are using pirated software are committing
offences under Section 66 of Information Technology Act,
2000
Recently, the Delhi High Court awarded
approximately (US$46500) to Microsoft
