Starting MS Word

The following procedure is used to start MS


Word:
 Click start button to display start menu.

 Move the to Programs to display sub-menu.


 Click on MS Word to open application window with
blank document.
Parts of Word Interface
Title Bar
 Located at the very top of screen.
 Displays the name of current file.

Menu Bar
 Represent different menu.
 Menu contains different commands of Word.
Toolbar
 Located just below the Menu bar.
 Shortcuts to menu bar.

Scroll bar
 Used to move through documents in different
ways.
 By clicking scroll arrows at either end of scroll
bar (scroll up and scroll down).
 By dragging scroll button in scroll bar.
Status bar
 Horizontal area at bottom of document
window.
 Provides information about current state of
document.
File menu
There are several
options in file menu:

 New
 Open
 Close
 Save
 Save As
 Page setup
 Print Preview
 Print
 Exit
New (Creating New Document)

New document can be created by using file menu


option to get Blank document on screen. Following
procedure is used to create new document:
 Click file > New from menu bar. OR
 Click New document button on toolbar. OR
 Press Ctrl + N
Open (Existing Document Open)

User can open existing


document when to make
changes or add more
information to it.
Following procedure is
used to open document:
 Click File > Open. OR
 Click Open File button on
standard bar. OR
 Press Ctrl + O
Save Command
To store Word
document in file on disk.
Following procedure is
used to save document:
 Click File > Save. OR
 Click Save icon on
Standard toolbar. OR
 Press Ctrl + S. OR
 Press Alt + Shift +F2
 Enter file name
 Click save
Save As Command
To store another copy
of an existing document
with different name or
at different location.
Following procedure is
used to save As
document:
 Open saved document
 Click File > Save As. OR
 Press Function key F12
 Enter file name/location
 Click save
Page setup
To change page margins
and orientations using
page setup & Dialog Box
appears as follows:
 Click File > Page Setup
 Click Margin tab to set
Top, Bottom, Left and
Right margins. OR
 Click Paper Size to
enter size of paper in
width and height
 Click OK
Printing Preview

To see document on-


screen exactly as it look
when it is printed.
 Select File > Print
Preview
 Click on document to
zoom in to view more
clearly
 Click again to zoom back
out
Printing Page

User can print document


after compiling to get
hard copy. Following
procedure is used to
print document:
 Select File > Print. OR
 Press Ctrl + P
 Select page range &
number of copies
 Click OK to get print
Closing a Document
 Process of unloading a word document from computer
memory.
 MS Word prompt user to save document before it is
closed.

Following procedure is used to close document:


 Select File > Close. OR
 Press Ctrl + F4. OR
 Click Close button on menu bar.
 Document will be closed
Exiting Word

 Process of closing MS Word is called exiting Word.


 All open Word files are closed when exit.
 MS Word prompt user to save document before it is
closed.

Following procedure is used to close document:


 Select File > Exit. OR
 Press Alt + F4. OR
 Click Close button on top-left of Word Window.
