 Creating a plan for personal development helps you get a better sense of control over your life and will
make you better prepared for whatever comes your way.
What Is A Personal Development Plan?
 You may be thinking “What is a personal development plan”.
 A personal development plan is your guideline for your life and your future success.
Why Do You Need A Personal Development Plan?
 The reason you need a personal development plan is that making a plan will help you to make better
decisions and remind yourself where you want to go.
 Good preparation increases the probability of success and decreases the risk of things going wrong
along the way.
How To Write A Personal Development Plan?
 When writing a personal development plan, the thing about the goals you want to achieve, ways in
which you need to improve and develop, and design a plan that will make you prepared to tackle the
most important tasks for the coming day.
Personal Development Cycle
 A Personal development cycle is a continuous cycle that is composed of three major components –
curiosity, awareness, and truth.
 Each component aspect feeds into next in a continuous loop.
 As we age, we tend to get set in our routine and lose the curiosity we had as children. You should
never become so compliant that you lose your hunger to learn and improve.
 Ignorance is not always bliss. Becoming aware of our old and bad habits is the only way to actually
instrument positive change.
 It is important to develop a sense of personal awareness to increase your knowledge and understanding
of where our strengths and weaknesses lie.
 Embrace your truth. The world is yours for the taking, but first, there is some self-growth that needs to
occur.
 By learning and accepting what your strengths and weaknesses are, you can capitalize on the strengths
and continuously work to improve the areas of weakness.
Personal Development Planning Checklist
 Forming a personal development planning checklist is the best way to monitor yourself and make
sure you are on track to accomplish your end goals.
 Start by writing out your goals with as much detail as possible. Then write down your strengths
and weaknesses.
 Next, write down a list of resources that you have available to you that may help in your personal
development.
 This list can include courses and workshops, books and websites, or networking. Do not be afraid
to ask others for help.
 You can network by reaching out to friends and family, colleagues, or even by joining a group
that is devoted to the areas you would like to focus on.
 Learning from a mentor is the best way to gain invaluable experience and life skills.
Personal Development Plan Guide
 Personal Development does not have to be a daunting task. If you follow this personal development plan
guide, you will uncover key ways of improving yourself without worry and stress.
 However, before you can set up a plan, you need to do some self-reflecting and answer personal goal
questions.
 A few questions you should develop before laying out a specific plan of action are:
 What do I want to make out of my life?
 What are my goals and ambitions?
 What is currently standing in my way of achieving these goals?
 After answering those questions, you can create a personal plan that contains a few key components.
 The key components you should focus on are having a specific outcome that you are constantly working
towards, planning and paving a path towards achieving it, being mindful of the obstacles, and
understanding the bigger motivation behind your actions.
Personal Development Plan For Work
 When developing a personal development plan for work, you should focus on SMART goals.
SMART stands for “Specific”, “Measurable”, “Achievable”, “Relevant”, and “Time-Bound”.
 Following this easy to remember acronym, you can improve both your personal and professional
life.
 In order to make progress that you can see and track, you need to document a detailed plan of
action.
 Some personal development plan examples for work include answering the following questions:
 What do I want to learn?
 What do I have to do?
 What support and resources will I need?
 How will I measure success?
Cont. Personal Development Plan For Work
 Be as specific with your answers as possible. The more precise, the easier it is to track your progress.
 Seeing how far you have come and how your hard work is paying off will give you a boost of
confidence and provide a sense of accomplishment.
 Outside of the workspace, it is important to be focusing on some personal goals as well. Similar to
the work plan, the personal plan requires you to focus on key points in order to achieve your goals.
 Here is a personal development plan example:
 What are the important goals that you want to achieve?
 When is your set deadline?
 What are your biggest strengths?
 Who or what biggest threats?
Personal Development Plan Template
 If you want to achieve your goals, having a detailed plan is crucial.
 I’ve created a personal development plan template to help facilitate your goals.
 There are six core steps in this template that will help you take action and measure your progress.
 Step 1: Write a list of the top ten most important goals you would like to achieve.
 Step 2: Write which of those ten is the most important to you and why.
 Step 3: Write down a specific timeline for achieving your goal.
 Step 4: Write down your strengths and weakness.
Cont. Personal Development Plan Template

 Focus on about three of each and then write how your strengths can help you achieve this goal
and how you plan to overcome those weaknesses.
 Step 5: Write actions that you need to take in order to achieve your goal. This can be things
you need to add to your daily routine as well as things you need to eliminate from it.
 Doing this will help you to achieve each goal faster.
 Step 6: This step is to mark your progress. Write down what has been working well, what
you have accomplished, what you still need to improve, and what skills or knowledge you
have gained along the way.
These 6 Time Management Skills Will
Change Your Life
 Follow these closely and you’ll be well on
your way to becoming the most productive
person you know. Learning these time
management skills and organization
techniques should be added to everyone’s
personal development plan because they are
so effective!
Time Management Skill #1:
Prepare In Advance
 First, prepare your work list for the following day the evening or night before.
 The best exercise is for you to plan your entire next day as the last thing you do before coming
home from work. When you plan your day the night before, your subconscious then goes to work
on your plans and goals while you are asleep. Very often you will wake up in the morning with
ideas and insights that apply to the work of the day.
 A major benefit of preparing your daily list the night before is that this exercise lets you sleep
more soundly. A major reason for insomnia is your lying awake trying not to forget to remember
everything that you have to do the following day.
 Once you have written down everything you have to do on your list, it clears your mind and
enables you to sleep deeply. This will help you increase productivity throughout the next
workday. Although it may seem simple, using a to-do list is one of the most powerful time
management tips available.
Time Management Skill #2:
Schedule Your Time
 Scheduling your time reduces stress and releases energy.
 The very act of using your organizational skills to plan your day, week,
and month, gives you a greater feeling of control and will help increase
productivity throughout your day. You’ll feel in charge of your life.
Mastering your time organization actually increases your self-esteem
and improves your sense of personal power.
Time Management Skill #3:
Start Early
 To increase productivity, start your day early. The more time you take to sit, think, and plan, the
better organized you will be in every area of your life.
 In the biographies and autobiographies of successful men and women, almost all of them have one
thing in common. They developed great organizational skills and the habit of going to bed at a
reasonable hour and rising early.
 Many successful people arise at 5:00 A.M. or 5:30 A.M. so that they can have enough time to think
and plan for the coming day. As a result, they are always more effective than those who sleep in
until the last possible moment.
 A few minutes of quiet reflection before you begin any undertaking can save you many hours
executing the task. When you get up early and plan your day in advance, you tend to be more
calm, clear-headed, and creative throughout the day.
Time Management Skill #4:
Fine-Tune Your Organizational Skills
 Resolve to improve your organizational skills and use a filing system both at home and at work.
 As much as 30 percent of working time today is spent looking for misplaced items. These are
things that are lost because they have not been filed correctly. Does this sound familiar to you?
There are few activities so frustrating as spending your valuable time looking for misplaced
materials because no thought was given to a filing and retrieval system.
 The best and simplest of all filing systems is an alphabetical system. In conjunction with a filing
system, you should have a master list or record of all your files in a single place. This master list
gives you the title of each file and tells you where the file is located.
 SMART goals are another great way to stay organized and hold yourself accountable for staying
on track.
Time Management Skill #5:
Increase Productivity With Prime Time
 Organize your life so that you are doing creative work during your internal ‘‘prime time.’’
 Your internal prime time is the time of day, according to your body clock, when you are the most alert
and productive. For most people, this is in the morning. For some people, however, it is in the evening.
Occasionally, a writer, an artist, or an entertainer may find that her prime time is in the early hours of the
morning
 Listening to your body and identifying your own prime time is essential to achieving all of your goals. If
one of your goals is to learn how to write a book, part of your prime time should be dedicated to
planning, writing, editing, and marketing your book.
 It is important that you be aware of your internal prime time so that you can schedule your most
important projects accordingly to increase productivity. Your most important work usually requires that
you be at your very best, rested, alert, and creative. What time of the day do you most feel this way?
 You must also be aware of external prime time. This is the time when your customers or clients are most
readily available. Each person should give some thought to structuring their day for both their external
and internal prime times.
Time Management Skill #6:
Air Travel Productivity
 An important area where organizational skills are important is travel, especially air travel.
 Some years ago, Hughes AirWest, a regional airline that once served the western U.S., hired a
consulting firm to compare the efficiency of flying first-class with flying economy-class, and with
working in a normal office.
 What they found was that one hour of uninterrupted work time in an airplane yielded the
equivalent of three hours of work in a normal work environment. The keyword was
‘‘uninterrupted.’’ If you plan ahead and organize your work before you leave for the airport, you
can increase productivity by accomplishing an enormous amount while you are in the air.
 I hope you enjoyed this article on increasing productivity through better organizational skills. If
you have any other time management tips, please feel free to share it below.
7 Ways To Increase Productivity And
Improve Your Learning Curve
 There are seven ways to increase productivity, performance and output, by developing
a clear vision and increasing your learning curve.
1- Work Longer Hours

 First, work longer hours. Start a little earlier, work through lunchtime

and stay a little later. By starting your day earlier than the average
person, you beat the traffic into work. By staying a little later, you
leave after the traffic. By doing both, you can add two or three hours
to your productive working day without really affecting your lifestyle.
These extra hours are all you need to become one of the most
productive and highest paid people in your field.
2- Work Harder To Increase Productivity

 Second, work harder at what you do. When you work, work all
the time you work. Don’t waste time. Don’t look upon the
workplace as an extension of school or university where you
spend most of your time socializing with your friends. Instead,
when you come into work, put your head down and work full
blast for the entire day. This practice alone will enable you to
increase productivity.
3- Work Faster With A Clear Vision

 Third, work faster. Develop a sense of urgency. Get on with the

job. Don’t waste time. Develop and maintain a clear vision and a
fast tempo in your work activities. Deliberately move faster from
task to task. You’ll be amazed at how much more you’ll get done
just by deciding to pick up the pace in everything you do.
4- Choose High Value Projects

 Fourth, work on higher value activities. Remember that it is not

the number of hours you work that matters. Rather, it is the value
of the tasks that you complete that counts. It is the quality and
quantity of results that you achieve. The more time you spend on
higher value tasks, the greater results you will obtain from every
hour you put in.
5- Showcase Your Strengths

 Fifth, do things you are better at. When you work on tasks where
you are especially skilled and experienced, you can accomplish
much more in a shorter period of time than could an
inexperienced person. In addition, work at getting better at the
most important things you do. There is nothing that will increase
the quality and quantity of your output faster than for you to
become absolutely excellent at performing the most important
tasks that are expected of you.
6- Develop Your Learning Curve

 Sixth, bunch your tasks. Do several similar activities all at the

same time. By writing all your letters, filling out all your expense
reports, or preparing all your proposals at the same time, you get
better and faster with each task. You get onto what is called the “
learning curve.” Each subsequent task takes you less time. You
can actually reduce the amount of time it takes to perform a
particular task by 80% by doing several similar tasks one after
the other.
7- Simplify Your Work

 The seventh key to productivity improvement is for you

to simplify your work with a clear vision of what is important so
that it is easier to do. Consolidate several parts of the job into a
single task so that there are fewer steps to increase productivity.
Eliminate lower value activities altogether.
So, The Race Is On
 Compete against yourself to see how much you can get done of high value each day. Make it a game.
Set schedules and deadlines for yourself and race against the deadlines. See if you can get more and
more done in less time and improve your learning curve.
 Develop a clear vision for yourself as a highly productive person. Think about the times in your life
when you were most productive, effective and efficient. Think about those situations when you were
doing the right things and you were doing them in the right way. You were getting a lot done in a short
period of time. You felt terrific about yourself and your performance. You were in that magical state of
“flow,” when you felt happy and exhilarated. Project forward five years and imagine that you are now
one of the most productive people in your field. What would you look like? How would you be
working? What would you be working on? What would be your guiding principles for personal
performance? How would people describe you to others in terms of the way you work? Let your future
vision guide your present performance.
