Philippine Independence Proclamation

The Philippine flag commemorates the country's declaration of independence from Spain in 1898 with its colors of blue, red, and white. The colors were chosen based on the colors of the American flag to honor the United States, who aided the Philippine revolutionaries against Spain and served as an inspiration for independence. However, Philippine independence was not fully realized as the country was ceded to the U.S. per the 1898 Treaty of Paris, leading to the Philippine-American War and continued American rule over the Philippines.

PROCLAMATION OF THE PHILIPPINE

INDEPENDENCE

The Independence of the Filipinos from the hands of Spaniards, under the
Spaniards regime, Filipinos are slave of Spaniards and if not prevented or
stopped Filipinos will suffer even more and will also have a threatening life in
the future. The Spaniards tend to abuse and more likely to kill those who do
not follow their rules and regulations at that time.

The declaration of independence is one of the most important milestones in

Philippine history. The country was colonized by many nations for hundreds
of years. Imagine achieving your freedom after all the hardships you've
been through. It is priceless.
Revolution in Philippines against Spain

1896- Filipino nationalist fought against the Spanish

rule that had ruled the Philippines since the
sixteenth century in the fall of 1896. The 1896
revolution, which was led by Emilio Aguinaldo
(1869–1964), led to both a war with Spain that was
anticipated and an unexpected conflict with the
United States.

By late 1897-Aguinaldo made a deal with the

Spanish when the revolutionaries were forced into
the hills southeast of Manila.

In April 1898- the United States declared war on

Spain following the sinking of the Battleship Maine
in Havana harbor on February 15, 1898. The war
ended with the signing of the Treaty of Paris on
December 10, 1898
The Philippine Declaration of Independence

In Kawit, Cavite on 12 June 1898 where Filipino

revolutionary forces under General Emilio
Aguinaldo proclaimed the sovereignty and
independence of the Philippine islands from Spanish
colonization after the latter was defeated at the
Battle of Manila Bay on 1 May 1898 during the
Spanish-American War. It was declared a national
holiday and was witnessed by thousands of people
who gathered in Kawit to witness the historic event.

This event was also the first time the Philippine

National Anthem was performed publicly and the
first time the Philippine flag was displayed.
Macapagal said the proclamation of Philippine
independence on June 12, 1898 gave colonial Asia
its first free and united nation.
The Act of the Declaration of Independence

This Act of Declaration of the Philippine Independence by Ambrosio Rianzares

Bautista became a basis for the present generation to discover when and how
the Philippines was liberated.

For many, this day signaled the end of the 333 years of Spanish Colonization. It
was a euphoric culmination of the revolution that started less than two years
prior—a revolution that spilt the blood of many revolutionaries, both in the hands
of the colonizers and of their fellow Filipinos.

Bautista, who was arrested and jailed at the outbreak of the Revolution, was the
one who authored the "Act of Declaration of Philippine Independence". He was
also the one who read the declaration during the June 12, 1898 Independence
proclamation by General Aguinaldo in Kawit, Cavite

was our freedom actually
achieved?
Treaty of Paris of 1898

American commissioners negotiated in a hostile atmosphere

because all Europe, except England, was sympathetic to the Spanish
side. Although the Conference discussed Cuba and debt questions, the
major conflict concerned the situation of the Philippines.

The Treaty of Paris ended the Spanish-American War, and forced

Spain to cede the Philippines, Guam, and Puerto Rico to the United
States. In return, the United States paid Spain $20 million for the
Philippines. President William McKinley was then faced with the
decision of what to do with the Philippines.
What kind of government that Emilio Aguinaldo
established?

Emilio Aguinaldo led a revolutionary movement

against the Spanish colonial government in the
Philippines. He cooperated with the U.S. during the
Spanish-American War but subsequently broke with
the U.S. and led a guerrilla campaign against U.S.
authorities during the Philippine-American War.

He established a dictatorial government. Six

days after the proclamation of independence,
Aguinaldo issued a proclamation formalizing the
creation of a dictatorial government responsible for
assessing the needs of the country. The Dictatorial
Government would last for only five days.
Andres Bonifacio is regarded as the Father of the Philippine Revolution against Spain. He
also is known as the Father of the Katipunan, a secret revolutionary society he founded in
1892 and whose goal was to win Philippine independence from Spain by means of a
revolution.
THE PHILIPPINE FLAG
The white triangle in our Philippine flag represents the emblem, the
symbol of the Katipunan society. We all know that the three stars
represent Luzon Visayas and Mindanao but you know based on the
history that the three stars is Luzon Mindanao and Panay Island. Why
Panay Island? Because these three major islands are where the
revolution started. The sun represents the gigantic strides that were
made by the sons of this land towards the progress and civilization.
And the eight (8) rays protruding from the sun are representative of
the provinces of Nueva Ecija, Manila, Pampanga, Bulacan, Cavite,
Laguna, Batangas, and Bataan (the first eight provinces that sought
independence from Spain).
The colors of the flags are the colors blue, red and white these colors
based on the proclamation of the Philippines independence
document these colors commemorates the flag of Unites States of
America.

Why the colors of Philippines flag are commemoration to the flag of united states of America?
