Presentation 1

The document provides instructions for constructing fillets, drawing arcs and tangents between circles, blending circles and arcs, drawing ellipses, creating scale drawings, following conventions for first and third angle orthographic drawings, dimensioning, and depicting nuts, bolts, and related hardware. It explains techniques like drawing arcs to guide curved corners when filleting shapes, determining tangency points between circles, and methods for constructing ellipses using concentric circles or four center points.

Constructing a
Fillet
• Draw the outline of the
original shape ie; square
• Near the corners of the
shape draw a few arcs of the
given radius and draw a line
using them as a guide
• Where the lines meet place
the point of your compass to
create a curved corner.
Arcs and Tangency

Given Point (point P) outside the circle – Join the point and center of the circle with a line(V.L) and create a semi-circle; the
tangency point will be where the two arcs meet. Connect the point of tangency and the point P

Two Unequal Circles – ( radius of big circle – radius of small circle) and draw another circle from the center point of the big
circle. Join the center of the circles with a line(V.L) and create a semi-circle; the tangency point will be where the two arcs
meet(use the inside circle). Connect the point of tangency and the point inside the other circle

Internal common tangent - (add the radius of the circles) and draw another circle from the center point of the big circle.
Join the center of the circles with a line(V.L) and create a semi-circle; the tangency point will be where the two arcs
meet(use the outside circle). Draw a line connecting the center of the circle to the point of tangency, the point where the
original circle meets the line is where you draw a connector to the bottom of the other circle.
Blending Circles and arcs

• [Link]
• To make the reference point: add the sum of the
two radii to the radius of each circle and where the
arcs meet is the point
• Internal arc: connect the bottom of the circles with
a radius of the sum of the circles' radii
• External arc: (multiply the sum radius by 2) minus
the radius of each circle and where the arcs meet is
the new point. Continue a line straight from that
point thru the center to the edge of the circle and
with the radius of (multiply the sum radius by 2)
connect those points with an arc

Ellipse

• [Link] - concentric circle method

• Horizontal = Major axis • Draw 2 circles

• Vertical = Minor axis • Draw 8 vertical lines

• Connect with 4 horizontal lines

• [Link] - 4 centre method

• AB – bisect a line
• AC then takes radius major to the minor axis
• Radius CE moves to line AC
• Bisect line AF
• Connect points to minor axis P1+P2 found on the major
and minor axis
• Radius to P1 duplicate on other side for P3
• Radius to P2 duplicate on other side for P4
