Learning Objectives:
By the end of the lesson, students will be able to:
• identify the person who developed the Theory of Multiple intelligences
• recognize the nine commonly identified intelligencies; and
• discuss the Multiples intelligence theory and Centered- based Learning.
• discover the guidelines in centered- based learning
What is
Multiple
Intelligence?
The Theory of Multiple Intelligence (1983)
• proposed by Howard Gardner
• enlarged the parameters of intelligent
behavior to embrace the diversity of
human capacities (Bender, 2002)
• each person possesses capacities in all
nine intelligences
• Utilized to achieve three goals: (1)
matching instruction to the ways learners
learn,(2) encouraging learners to expand
their skills and develop their intelligences
as fully possible and (3) honoring and
celebrating diversity (Ozdemir [Link],
2006).
What is Center-
Based Learning?
Center-Based Learning
• Learner-centered educational
environment
• Providing and expanding
various styles and teaching
techniques
• Recognizes an individual has
multiple intelligences
• An approach emphasizes both
teamwork and individual
teamwork

2. After deciding on a theme, teachers can
ask following questions:
Linguistic- How can I use the spoken
word?
Logical/mathematical- How can I bring
numbers?
Spatial- How can I use visual aids?
Bodily-kinesthetic- How can I use the whole body?
Musical- How I can bring in music?
Interpersonal- How can I engage learners in group
work?
Intrapersonal- How I can I evoke personal
feelings?
Naturalistic- How can I bring in nature?
Existential- How can I bring in philosophical questions?
3. Create centers in the classroom with materials that are
appropriate for each identified multiple intelligences.
