The term “media” refers to the communication channels
or tools used to store and deliver information or data .
Media can include print media (such as newspaper and
magazine), broadcast media, digital media and other
forms of communication. media plays a crucial role in
shaping public opinion disseminating news and
information and facilitating communication between
individual and group.
IMPORTANCE OF MEDIA IN A SOCIETY
Media plays a crucial role in society for several reason
 Informing the public media provides news, information and
updates on local , national, and international events keeping the
public informed and aware of what is happening in the world.
 Educating the public media educates people by raising
awareness about important issues, sharing knowledge, and
providing insights into complex topics.
 Promoting freedom of speech. Media acts as a platform for
freedom of speech, allowing individuals and groups to voice their
opinions and perspective.
HISTORICAL EVOLUTION OF MEDIA
 Printing press (15th century)
The printing press, invented by Johannes Gutenberg in the 15th
century, revolutionized the production of books and newspaper,
making information more accessible to the masses.
 Radio (Early 20th century)
Radio broadcasting became popular in the early 20th century.
Providing news, entertainment, and information to a wide
audience.
 Television (Mid-20th century)
Television became a household staple in the mid- 20th century,
offering visual content and news programming to viewers.

This includes television and radio broadcast media reach a wide audience
and are used for news, entertainment, and educational programming.
 Digital media
This includes online platform such as websites, blogs, social media, and
streaming service. Digital media are highly interactive and allow for real-
time communication and engagement.

This refer to online platform and app that allow users to create, share, and
interact with content social media platform include facebook, twitter,
Instagram and linkedin.
