DLL(Blocks of time)

Introduction

Based on the DepEd Order No. 47, s. 2016 the


Omnibus Policy on Kindergarten Education, kindergarten
follows class program known as the Blocks of Time.
Following the daily routine helps children feels while
supporting and encouraging them to do some challenges
and work cooperatively with others.

The kindergarten teacher observes and
documents children’s learning as they are involved in
the learning activities. Many outcomes of the
kindergarten curriculum are reinforced once daily
routine are practiced. This system of organizing the
children’s learning experiences can be appropriately
contextualized in relation to the social and cultural
realities in their community.

Objectives:

1. Make a DLL following the Blocks of Time for kindergarten


pupils.

2. Follow the MELC base objective in making DLL.

3. Identify instructional materials that are present in the


community.

Priming Activity – 15 minutes

∙ What are the Blocks of Time.


∙ Discuss among your group the Blocks of Time, time
allotted and domains/competencies for each routine.
∙ Write your answer on the manila paper provided.
∙ Choose a representative for the group/s presentation

(Blocks of Time) the following will be discussed.

1. The Blocks of Time


2. Time allotted for each routine.
3. The description of learning activities in each routine.

BLOCKS OF TIME
IN
KINDERGARTEN CLASS

Arrival Time
10 mins.
Learning Activities:
- individual, peer or group exploration of the different play areas or
activity centers in the classroom while waiting for the other children to
arrive.
Learning Domain/Competencies :
- Fine motor, language literacy and communication skills, socio-
emotional skills.

Expected activities:
- The teacher greets each learners as they arrive in the classroom,
shake their hands and welcome the learners. Learners who come early
may be given time for free play while waiting.

Meeting Time 1
10 mins.
Learning Activities:
- Introductory or preparatory activities of the day.

Learning Domain/Competencies :
- Language literacy and communication skills.

Expected activities:
- Daily Routine

Work Period 1
45 mins.
Learning Activities:
- Small group activities.

Learning Domain/Competencies :
- Literacy Skills, work or study skills.

Expected activities:
- The teacher assigns the learners to at least 5 small groups. There is 1
TS activity per day and 4 independent activity in a day.
- Activities are usually on literacy and linked to the message of the day.

Meeting Time 2
10 mins.
Learning Activities:
- Second whole group activity. Discussion of the content focus of the
day. Asking and answering questions.

- Language, Literacy and Communication Skills.

Expected activities:
- The teacher asks questions about the activities in Work Period 1.

Supervised Recess
15 mins.
Learning Activities:
- Nourishing break for learners. Emphasize good table manners.

Learning Domain/Competencies :
- Personal Autonomy or self-help skills, Fine motor skills

Quiet Time
10 mins.
Learning Activities:
- Children can rest or engage in relaxing activities.

- Following instructions

Stories/Rhymes/Poems/Songs

- This is a teacher-guided interactive read-aloud activity.

Learning Domain/Competencies :
- Language , Literacy and Communication Skills.

Expected activities:
- Stories/books must be age and culturally appropriate on the theme.
- The teacher follow the standards in storytelling.

Work Period 2
40 mins.
Learning Activities:
- Children work on small group, in pair or individually on either teacher-
assigned or a child-initiated activities.

Learning Domain/Competencies :
- Numeracy skills

Expected Activities :
- Done like WP1. Activities are usually on numeracy and other math skills.

Indoor/Outdoor Games
20 mins.
Learning Activities:
- Activities include sport, simple athletics, movement activities and
outdoor games.

Learning Domain/Competencies :
- Gross and Fine Motor Skills, Receptive and Expressive Language
Skills.

Meeting Time 3
5 mins.

Learning Activities:
- Children are given time to pack away. Reminders and learning
extensions are also given during this period.

- Language, Literacy and Communication Skills, Self-help Skills.

- Teacher poses wrap-up questions.
