SOLVE PROBLEMS

INVOLVING AREA
OF PLANE
REGIONS
AREAS OF
PLANE REGIONS
AREA BETWEEN CURVES

1.Calculate the intersecting value of x.

2.Sketch

3.Use the formula to find the area

between the given curves.

Area =
EXAMPLE

1. Find the area of the region bounded by the parabola y = 2 − x² and below by the line y = −x.

2 − x² = −x
x² − x − 2 = 0
(x − 2)(x + 1) = 0
x = 2, x = −1
2. SKETCH

2 − x² ; −1
Find the area of the region bounded by y = 3x - x²
and the x-axis.
2.Find the area of the region bounded by y = x²,
the lines x=1 and x=2.
3.Find the area of the region bounded by x = 3 - y²
and y = x − 1.
EXAMPLE:
3. Use the formula to find the area between the given curves.
The limits are -1 and 2

Area = 2x-
