CLASSIFICATION
The Philippines is composed of more than 7,000 islands with diversified type
of people and cultures. Filipinos are musically inclined that every corner of
the island showcase is tradition embedded with traditional dancing.
What we call Philippine
Dance are classified
according to groups:
1. Dances of the Cordillera
Groups.
2. Colonial influenced
Philippine Dances.
RURAL
(or Countryside
DANCES
dance)
• Give homage to the barrios namesake for a good harvest, health and
perseverance
• To the Filipinos, these dances illustrate the fiesta spirit and demonstrate
a love of life.
• These fiestas are marked with celebrations of holy mass, music, dance
and song.
ITIK - • It originated in Cantilan, Surigao del
Sur in the Philippines.

• Men typically wear the barong
tagalog, ,camisa de chino, and pair
these shirts with white trousers and a
bright colored neckerchief.
• Women: Women often wear the baro't
saya, patadyong, balintawak, and a
bandanna around their heads,

“ birds locally known as
tikling”
• The dance originated in Palo, Leyte,
Island in the Visayas.
• Dancers imitate the tikling bird's
legendary grace and speed by skillfully
manoeuvring between large bamboo
poles.
• Women traditionally wear a dress called
Balintawak or patadyong.
• Men wear an untucked embroidered shirt
called the barong Tagalog.

DANCES
• Maria Clara is a character in *Jose Rizal's novel. She is a symbol of virtues
and nobility of Filipina women.
• As the Philippines was colonized by the Spaniards, it was customary for
Filipinos to celebrate their ‘class and distinction’ through Spanish influenced
dances.
• Courtship, love, and flirtation are all evident in this suite of romantic dances.
Cariñ“loving or

• The cariñosa originated in Panay Island
and was introduced by the Spaniards
during their colonization of the
Philippines.
• Girls dancers may wear balintawak style
,camisa, Maria Clara dress or
patadyong kimona
• For boys, a barong Tagalog and colored
pants.
