Just read the MFAT report. The observations and findings section alone is tough reading and should be a mandatory case study for every business leader in NZ considering digitization or cloud first/modern architecture, or maybe any large programme at all. This was absolutely doomed from the outset. I'd be really interested to see the number on how many BA's, project/programme managers and Architects looked at this, the scope (or lack there of) and ran for the hills. While obviously the CIO bore ultimate responsibility, there are a lot of people along the way who have contributed to this mess, and probably many more who screamed the whole way along about what was going in. Wow, I guess this is why people invest in hybrid cloud backups 🫨 "While UniSuper normally has duplication in place in two geographies, to ensure that if one service goes down or is lost then it can be easily restored, because the fund’s cloud subscription was deleted, it caused the deletion across both geographies.
