    by Svarttjern
Ment til å Tjene Ment til å Tjene
In my 4th review of Svarttjern's 5th full-length album, I finally get a chance to ask you whether you knew that 3/5th of this band are Carpathian Forest actually?
Anyways, full-frontal attack TNBM style, and a few tracks in their mother tongue, mighty riffs and blitzkrieg pace, this is the pinnacle of Svarttjern's career I think, at least while waiting for the newer album to drop!
  7. Dødsskrik
    by Svarttjern
Det River I Meg Det River I Meg
Once more I disagree with most of those who said "just another repetitive Svarttjern album". Again, yes truly faithful to their style as in previous albums, but if you carefully listen e.g. to tracks like "Admiring Death", "Blessed Flesh" but especially "Det River I Meg", you will hear new elements that will please those who like Black'N'Roll. Not shockingly innovative obviously, but it would not be true Norwegian BM otherwise, right?
  8. Towards The Ultimate
    by Svarttjern
    Hellig Jord Hellig Jord
What I love is that I am of those who will never be jaded by this "old school" black metal from Norway, whether is Bergen, Trondheim or Oslo, I don't mind that they keep faithful to the True Norwegian BM and innovate very little, though this album has a somewhat more polished prod, lots of variety in tempo changes, some thrash influences, and lots of typical riffs that are familiar (a few that actually made me think of Marduk). FFO Tsjuder, Urgehal, ettc.
  9. Misanthropic Path Of Madness
    by SVARTTJERN
Passions of 7 Passions of 7
Uncompromising, no BS, relentless "We take no prisoners" full-frontal assault style, Trve Kvlt Norwegian Black Metal à la Urgehal, Taake, and Tsjuder! Can't wait to see them live in Aarburg on 22.12.24!
  10. Dawn of a Stillborn Sun
    by The Void's Embrace
    Ultimate Me Ultimate Me
Very solid death metal slab, it's melodic DM with well-crafted tracks and a crystal clear production. Memorable melodies and incredible song writing for a debut album by this band, obviously with talented and experienced musicians! All tracks are really catchy and varied in tempo changes, "Dawn of a Stillborn Sun" totals 46 min but they fly by in no time and makes you hit that replay button! How could this fly under my radar for so long? it's setting the bar high, but can't wait to hear more!!

Thank you @nika for getting this to appear on my feed.
So wait, this is a debut album of 2020 for an OSDM band around since the very beginning of DM. So they respawned to delight us with Swedish OSDM of the finest kind, FFO Dismember and Entombed, but with that modern touch by Dan "The Man" Swanö making it more reminiscent of Swedish bands like Darkened and Demonical, to cite a few. Glad this became "Cult", it is soooo goood!!
  13. Profan
    by Kampfar
    Icons Icons
Another timeless classic of Kampfar, with this opus they did solidify themselves as pagan black metal standard bearers, with the heretical and more folk-oriented elements in “Profan”. The atmosphere created here can be found in later "followers" of the genre such as British band Winterfylleth. Some daring experimentation was introduced with violins and piano, but the bulk remains that icy cold blistering controlled chaos. I have seen Kampfar live recently with 1349 and they owned the show!
  14. Mellom Skogkledde Aaser
    by Kampfar
Had a chance to see Kampfar live after 30 years of their existence, touring with 1349. They still rule, they own the stage, and they really enjoy entertaining the audience! Thought I'd add here on my BC this timeless classic of Norwegian BM, this pillar and milestone in Kampfar's career, but also a flagship of Norway extreme metal altogether.

    Escapist Escapist
Thank you @BrendanThomas for making their new album appear on my BC feed! I had to check this one out too and I must say, what a masterpiece of progressive technical death metal! Everything is perfect here, very highly recommended FFO Fracturus, Oubliette, Stortregn, Inferi, etc.
  16. Philanthropist
    by Praise of Death
Merged Into Another World Merged Into Another World
A one-manned project by multi instrumentalist Raziel, aka Mark Raziel. Blackened DM with thrash influences, some groovy passages, but also tech at times. There is also a female vocalist (small contribution, credited), else most of the album is covered by the main man and his deep growls, which fit the dark, doomy atmosphere quite well, IMHO. FFO Vital Remains, Dying Fetus and late Decapitated.
  17. Thy Kingdom Gone
    by Flowing Tears
Apart from the amazing and deep female lead vocalist Helen Vogt, I love the fact that 3.5/5th of this disbanded gothic / symphonic German metal act is from Powerwolf (Matthew Greywolf, aka Benjamin Buss; Stefan Gemballa, drummer in the PW early albums; and Charles Greywolf, aka David Vogt, aka husband of singer Helen Vogt :). Despite the illustrious musicians this is a symphonic / gothic metal gem that went under way too many radars!

Take Suotana and cross it genetically with Inferi, and you get this melodic progressive technical death metal from Finland, what a great new discovery for me!! Thank you @BrendanThomas for making this appear on my BC feed!!
