We are proud to announce that Kyle Basilius, Principal at Parkin, played a key role in a presentation at the CHES National Conference alongside Island Health - Vancouver Island Health Authority and H.H. Angus & Associates Ltd. 🎤 The session, titled “Relationship Building and a Net-Zero Carbon Future: The New Cowichan District Hospital Aims to Give Back to the People and the Land it Will Serve.” Kyle shared valuable insights on Indigenous relationship-building, achieving a net-zero carbon future, and creating culturally safe healing environments.

The importance of inclusive design has never been more vital to us at Parkin. Accessibility, universal design, and inclusion will always be guiding principles in our process. Inclusive design goes beyond just meeting accessibility standards—it’s about creating spaces where everyone, regardless of ability, age, or background, can fully engage with their surroundings. By integrating accessibility early in the process and collaborating with diverse user groups, architects can proactively design spaces that promote dignity, equality, and a sense of belonging for all.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Did you know it's the second most common cancer in Canada? With 1 in 8 women diagnosed in their lifetime, it's the number one cancer affecting women. At Parkin, we're dedicated to creating environments that support care and recovery. Healthcare facilities play a vital role in healing, and critical design elements—such as facility identity, patient privacy, and easy navigation—are essential. At the M. Lau Breast Centre inside Toronto's Princess Margaret Hospital, we designed a separate entrance for the Survivorship Clinic. Every design choice, from privacy-focused layouts to intuitive wayfinding, was made to ensure that patients and their families feel supported throughout their journey 💗 University Health Network

We’re excited to have contributed to the design of the new relocatable MRI facility near the Bayers Lake Outpatient Centre. This state-of-the-art project offers advanced medical imaging services in a flexible, relocatable structure, meeting the community's growing healthcare demands with innovation and adaptability. Our design team focused on ensuring the facility meets the highest standards of functionality, patient comfort, and accessibility, contributing to enhanced diagnostic capabilities in the region. September 30 marks the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, honouring survivors of Indian Residential Schools and remembering those who never returned home. Established in response to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s Call to Action #80, this day is a time to reflect on Canada’s ongoing journey toward healing. At Parkin, we’ve been privileged to work with Indigenous communities, learning from their rich cultures and addressing the challenges they face. We're committed to promoting reconciliation, guided by Call to Action #92, which urges meaningful consultation and equitable opportunities for Indigenous peoples. We closed out the summer on the course! ⛳️ Parkin’s foursome was excited to be part of the Cowichan District Hospital Foundation Golf Tournament earlier this month. They enjoyed a day of sun, fun, and community support.
