Reflection is a key part of research! As we wrap up our Scialog project, we’re sending end-of-study surveys to participating families. Their feedback on the study experience and our adapted protocol helps us improve and evolve. At the PN Lab, people with lived experience are at the heart of everything we do. Their insights guide our work, ensuring our research is meaningful, inclusive, and always growing.

On Tuesday we hosted the first ever PN Lab Open House, where lab members and their family and friends joined us for a very special event. Dr. Matthew Corkum PhD gave an incredible talk that reminded us all of the importance of inclusion, sport, and perseverance. Our communities support and empower us, and we look forward to more Open House events to come - although next time we will pick a warmer week!

We’re thrilled to share that members of our team have had abstracts accepted to the upcoming Canadian Sleep Society (CSS) meeting and the Children's Healthcare Canada (CHC) 2025 Conference! 🎉✨ At CSS in Montreal in March we'll be presenting on Nova Sleepcare, our new sleep education intervention for neurodiverse youth. At CHC in Ottawa in April we'll be presenting our work exploring experiences of moral distress in pediatric complex care coordinators.

We have been busy talking with individuals from the neurodiverse community to discuss, develop, and refine the Behaviours of Concern Assessment Instrument (BoCAI). Over the past few months, we have held 16 interviews where we talked to neurodiverse children, their parents, physicians, educators, psychologists, behavioural consultants, and occupational therapists about what they would like to see from the BoCAI. Our interviewees’ enthusiasm for this project was wonderful, and we are busy incorporating their feedback and suggestions into an updated version to ensure that the BoCAI fits the needs and preferences of the community. Stay tuned!

Precision Neurodevelopment Lab reposted this
I can't say I'm surprised given what I'm hearing every week in clinic from neurodiverse young people and their caregivers, but it doesn't make the findings of this report any less distressing. Thanks to Kids Brain Health Network (KBHN) for conducting this work. Now that we have this information we need to turn our attention to advocacy so we can improve this situation for all Canadians with disabilities. My team (the Precision Neurodevelopment Lab) and I are working on some strategies already - more soon.
Provincial and territorial disability policies are failing Canadians with disabilities – including children – and their families, finds a new report released today by Kids Brain Health Network (KBHN). https://lnkd.in/gEf8HfrT

Sample collection wrap alert! Our Scialog project - generously funded by the Research Corporation for Science Advancement - is exploring the connections between fatigue, the gut microbiome, and behaviours of concern. As of this week, we have successfully completed our final round of sample collections. We are deeply grateful to all the participants and families who generously took the time to contribute to this study. Over the last 10 months, participants have provided samples both at home and in person, and we sincerely thank them for their dedication and enthusiasm for this project. We are now transitioning into the data analysis phase. Stay tuned for updates and results—we can't wait to share our findings with you!
