Beacon has formed an exciting sustainability partnership with Little Forest Kingston 🌿! Involving so much more than simply planting trees, this enterprise is about creating lasting, positive change for communities and ecosystems alike 🌍. From 205 Bagot Street to 111 Van Order Drive in Kingston, City of Ontario, we’re helping to breathe new life into urban spaces through sustainable forestry, biodiversity, and community well-being. 🌿 We are incredibly proud to support Green Communities Canada and Little Forest Kingston in their efforts to plant 1000 trees and shrubs this October! 🌱These initiatives are helping to improve air quality, biodiversity, and human well-being right here in Kingston, Ontario. We can’t wait to witness the growth of these urban mini-forests! 🌳✨ #Sustainability #CommunityImpact #UrbanForests
Green Communities Canada is grateful to The Beacon Design Collective Inc. for supporting two little forest projects this year in Kingston, Ontario. Little Forest Kingston is leading these initiatives, wherein 1000 trees and shrubs will be planted this October to enhance the air quality, biodiversity, and human well-being at two sites. Biodiversity. The rich fabric woven by millions of species and their interactions. Food, air, climate, economies and civilization itself depend on it. You can think of biodiversity as the secret sauce behind all healthy ecosystems, keeping them balanced and resilient. In turn, healthy habitats make our lives livable. 💧Forests filter water through their roots and oysters clean water with their gills. 🌊 Coral reefs and coastal ecosystems absorb the force of storm surges and waves, protecting coastal communities. 🌱 Tropical rainforests, wetlands and mangroves are some of the natural ecosystems that soak up a third of the world’s climate-changing emissions every year. Protecting biodiversity means protecting ourselves, as we are connected to everything living or that has ever lived on this planet. Join us in celebrating and safeguarding the incredible variety of life on Earth. Curious about how you can help? 🌍 Today is World Habitat Day—a reminder that the future of our cities depends on the actions we take now 💚. In the words of Ban Ki-moon, former Secretary-General of the United Nations, "Let us work together to provide safe, resilient, and sustainable cities and human settlements for all." At Beacon, we’re committed to doing our part by supporting urban sustainability projects and creating designs that promote environmental action and community well-being, as demonstrated by our work with the Green Municipal Fund, among others. Check out how their funding and capacity-building programs are accelerating a transformation to resilient, net-zero communities across Canada. #WorldHabitatDay #SustainableCities #CommunityResilience

🌍 If we're truly committed to creating lasting change, sustainability shouldn't just be a buzzword. People are increasingly conscious of what real sustainability efforts entail, seeking out brands and organizations that take effective action to prioritize the health of the planet, and showing their support with their wallets 💸. 💚 This month, we encourage everyone to reflect on the small (and big!) actions we can take to create a more sustainable future. Whether it’s choosing eco-friendly products, supporting ethical businesses, or making energy-efficient changes in your daily life, every step counts! 👇 #SustainabilityMonth #ConsciousConsumer #SustainabilityMatters

As we reflect on Canada’s National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, we take this time to recognize the unceded traditional territories of the Coast Salish peoples, including the səlilwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh Nation) , Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish Nation), kʷikʷəƛ̓əm (Kwikwetlem First Nation), and xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam Indian Band) Nations. With team members located across the country, we also recognize and honour the territories they live and work on, including the Treaty One lands of Southern Manitoba, also home to the Métis Nation of Alberta, and the traditional territory of the Kanien’kehà in Quebec—a place of exchange for many First Nations including the Haudenosaunee Confederacy, Huron/Wendat, Abenaki, and Anishinaabeg. As Canadians, we acknowledge that much of the land we live and work on today was never willingly given up by Indigenous Peoples. These are lands that were stolen through colonial processes, leading to devastating impacts on Indigenous traditions, families, and livelihoods. As settlers and guests on these lands, we recognize the privilege we hold and commit to making reconciliation a daily practice. Truth and Reconciliation is a journey of learning, unlearning, and honouring the strength and resilience of Indigenous communities. To deepen your understanding of reconciliation, we encourage following organizations like Reconciliation Canada, The National Centre for Truth and Reconciliation and other Indigenous-led groups working to create pathways for truth and healing.

💡 Storytelling is fundamental to the human experience; especially for nonprofits. We all tell each other stories, all the time. When we do it with care, imagination, and detail, we strengthen our understanding of ourselves and others, building and strengthening the bonds between us. Telling the story of your organization and cause is no different. 🎊 👇 Click below to learn how we use storytelling as part of our Empathy Stimulation process, making it a key feature of strategic design. #Storytelling #NonprofitBranding #Empathy #NonprofitStrategy
