Ocean Biology & Biogeochemistry

NASA's Ocean Biology and Biogeochemistry (OBB) program focuses on describing, understanding, and predicting the biological, ecological, and biogeochemical regimes of the upper ocean, as determined by observation of aquatic optical properties using remote sensing data, including those from space, aircraft, and other suborbital platforms. The program supports several Federal research objectives, e.g., the U.S. Global Change Research Program, which address aspects of Carbon Cycle and Ecosystem research from space, with a focus on understanding Earth’s aquatic environment and its role within the Earth System. The program is also responsive to the National Ocean Policy and its associated recommendations, and the science priorities of the U.S. Carbon Cycle Science Program.
