A Survey of KYC/AML for Cryptocurrencies Transactions
IGI Global
KYC (know your customer) and AML (anti-money laundering) practices have been designed and implemented in traditional financial transactions for some years now. However, it has been complicated to find a balance between business efficiency, innovations, financial inclusion, and compliance, both in the specification of what should be done and in the implementation of a risk-based approach that satisfies the required specification during real business operation. This chapter presents a survey of traditional practices to KYC/AML, highlighting a subset of existing challenges in these practices, taking into consideration the innovation of cryptocurrencies transactions and related innovations, such as digital identity, and the financial inclusion of unbanked people without identity papers. The authors finish this chapter by discussing existing solutions to these challenges both by adopting new KYC/AML practices and by using innovative technological solutions.

Use case of linking a managed basket of fiat currencies to crypto-tokens
International Telecommunication Union (ITU)
The number of crypto-currencies is increasing fast. On one hand, following the launch of Bitcoin in 2009, more than 1000 different crypto-currencies are listed in the crypto-currency markets. On the other hand, solutions like eCurrency exist to effectively create digital fiat currencies. There are solid economic reasons to introduce an optimized basket of fiat currencies as well, along the lines of the International Monetary Fund Special Drawing Rights, particularly for entities with global…
The number of crypto-currencies is increasing fast. On one hand, following the launch of Bitcoin in 2009, more than 1000 different crypto-currencies are listed in the crypto-currency markets. On the other hand, solutions like eCurrency exist to effectively create digital fiat currencies. There are solid economic reasons to introduce an optimized basket of fiat currencies as well, along the lines of the International Monetary Fund Special Drawing Rights, particularly for entities with global assets and liabilities or for individuals wishing to protect their purchasing power in a more and more global and multipolar world. Up to now this kind of solution was only accessible to a few large institutions due to the structure of the foreign exchange market. The main original contribution of this paper is to present the first use case of linking a managed basket of fiat currencies to a new crypto-token. The tokenisation and the use of blockchain will enable us to make it accessible to any individual gaining diversification while benefiting from good liquidity and low cost. After reviewing recent digital fiat currencies initiatives, we explain the economic rationale of our optimized currency basket and its effective implementation by means of an existing blockchain-based distributed computing platform, i.e., Ethereum. Our technological approach enables a wide range of uses of our currency basket, which would not be possible without crypto-tokens.

Smart Cities Online Reputation Quantitative Survey
Smart City Expo World Congress
Many cities have recently chosen to become a smart city. A number of smart city rankings have been created and rank the cities around the world according to smart cities criteria. However, from a reputation point of view, it is not clear which parts of the world shine the most regarding its smart cities initiatives. Higher reputation may attract more investors or startups in the field and contribute to the business development of the territory. It is the reason that in this study we have…
Many cities have recently chosen to become a smart city. It is the reason that in this study we have applied commercially available online reputation tools in order to know which countries in the world have the highest e-reputation with regards to smart cities and may therefore benefit the most from their smart city initiatives. We have found that India has quantitatively the highest online reputation regarding smart cities. More generally, our study has shown that current online reputation management tools can be applied to smart cities and can be used to continuously monitor a smart city e-reputation as well as its potential smart cities competitors aiming at becoming the most attractive smart city in the world.

Formal Modeling and Verification of Opportunity-enabled Risk Management
IEEE, Proceedings of Trustcom International Symposium on Recent Advances of Trust, Security and Privacy in Computing and Communications
With the advent of the Bring-Your-Own-Device (BYOD) trend, mobile work is achieving a widespread diffusion that challenges the traditional view of security standard and risk management. A recently proposed model, called opportunity- enabled risk management (OPPRIM), aims at balancing the analysis of the major threats that arise in the BYOD setting with the analysis of the potential increased opportunities emerging in such an environment, by combining mechanisms of risk estimation with trust and…
With the advent of the Bring-Your-Own-Device (BYOD) trend, mobile work is achieving a widespread diffusion that challenges the traditional view of security standard and risk management. A recently proposed model, called opportunity- enabled risk management (OPPRIM), aims at balancing the analysis of the major threats that arise in the BYOD setting with the analysis of the potential increased opportunities emerging in such an environment, by combining mechanisms of risk estimation with trust and threat metrics. Firstly, this paper provides a formalization of the policy and metric specification paradigm of OPPRIM. Secondly, we present the verification of the OPPRIM model with respect to socio-economic aspects, which is obtained by employing tool-supported quantitative model checking techniques.

OPPRIM: Opportunity-Enabled Risk Management for Trust and Risk-Aware Asset Access Decision-Making
Open Archive University of Geneva
Nowadays BYOD and mobile work are a reality even if they challenge traditional security perimeters and risk management that mainly focus on the threats that these mobile opportunities create. They do not consider their potential benefits, e.g., if a user cannot work when being paid then the productivity is lower. It is the reason that in this paper we introduce a new risk management model, called OPPRIM, where opportunities are also taken into account. We first start by surveying previous work…
Nowadays BYOD and mobile work are a reality even if they challenge traditional security perimeters and risk management that mainly focus on the threats that these mobile opportunities create. They do not consider their potential benefits, e.g., if a user cannot work when being paid then the productivity is lower. It is the reason that in this paper we introduce a new risk management model, called OPPRIM, where opportunities are also taken into account. We first start by surveying previous work showing that opportunities have been underestimated. Then we detail our OPPRIM model. Finally we present the results of our evaluations through a user survey, quantitative data analysis at company level and simulations. For further enhancements, we have released an open-source OPPRIM simulator of more than 30 000 lines of Java code available on Github.

Extending Trust Management with Cooperation Incentives: Achieving Collaborative Wi-Fi Sharing Using Trust Transfer to Stimulate Cooperative Behaviours
8th IFIP WG 11.11 International Conference on Trust Management - Springer AICT Series
There are still many issues to achieve collaborative Wi-Fi sharing: the legal liabil-ity of the sharer; high data access costs in some situations (mobility when going over a monthly subscription quota, roaming…); no appropriate incentives to share. Current trust management could exclude the malicious users, but still could not foster Wi-Fi sharing. We have extended an appropriate trust metric with co-operation incentives to mitigate all the above issues. We have evaluated our pro-posal with a…

Current trust management could exclude the malicious users, but still could not foster Wi-Fi sharing. We have extended an appropriate trust metric with co-operation incentives to mitigate all the above issues. We have evaluated our pro-posal with a trust metric and incentive effectiveness through simulations and we have found the bootstrapping time for such a system and the average depletion time for its users linking it with the size of the system’s user base, proving the feasibility for such a combination.

A User-centric Approach to Trust Management in Wi-Fi Networks
InProc. Infocom 2013
Abstract—This technological demonstration goes over a new trust management framework which can assist in achieving secure connections in wireless networks, without necessarily implying the use of strong security associations. The demonstration is based on open-source software, and has been developed to run on OpenWRT as well as on Android.
