Category:Albinism
- English: Albinism (from Latin albus, meaning "white") is a lack of melanin pigmentation in the eyes, skin and hair. It is an inherited condition resulting from the combination of recessive genes passed from both parents of an individual. This condition is known to affect mammals, fish, birds, reptiles, and amphibians.

- Abnormal melanocyte migration
-
- Leucism: Melanocytes fail to migrate normally from the neural crest partially (white markings, spotting, roaning) or totally (all-white animal). Any sites with migrated melanocytes produces pigments normally unless additionally affected by albinism. Microscope findings of leucistic sites will show no traces of pigments.
- Leucistic white: An all-white animal, as distinguished from albino-white or partially leucistic animals.
- Abnormally low intensity of pigments
-
- Albinism: Lowered intensity of melanin pigments in normally migrated melanocytes.
- Albino: Such a low intensity of melanin pigments that the individual appears white, usually with red or light grey/blue eyes. Non-mammalian albinos may form other pigments normally.
- Dilution: Lowered intensity of pigment in normally migrated melanocytes.
- Axanthism: in birds, reptiles, fish and amphibians: lack of red and yellow xanthin pigments.
- Amelanism: lack of red and black melanin pigments.
