Our Oelde site is taking a major step toward sustainable heat supply with the installation of a large geothermal borefield – the first system of its kind within GEA. 🌍🌡️ Covering around 3,400 m² (about half a European football field), the field will include 50 boreholes drilled 200 meters deep. From 2026 onward, more than 40 kilometers of water-filled piping will draw on the earth’s stored energy, which a new GEA heat pump will convert into clean heat for a large production hall and other areas on site. 💧🔥 Built by colleagues from GEA Heating & Refrigeration Technologies, the heat pump will replace most parts of the existing gas heating system and help significantly reduce CO₂ emissions. Together with our already-operational photovoltaic system, these technologies mark another milestone on our path toward an energy-efficient, low-carbon future. ☀️🌱

Wie wird künstliche Intelligenz in der Industrie skalierbar und was braucht es dafür organisatorisch und kulturell? Darüber hat unser Chief Digital Officer Tom Oelsner diese Woche beim Münchner Management Kolloquium Heilbronn gesprochen – einer neuen Konferenz zu Industrial AI. Das Panel „From Prototype to Profit: Scaling AI in Industry“ brachte wichtige Perspektiven zusammen. In einer Runde mit Angie Gifford (Meta), Christopher d'Arcy (E.ON) und Philipp Engelhardt (BMW Group) ging es um die entscheidende Hürde: den Schritt von isolierten Pilotprojekten hin zu unternehmensweiter Wertschöpfung. Ein wichtiger Impuls aus der Diskussion: Erfolgreiche KI-Transformation hängt nicht nur von der Technologie ab, sondern auch von Menschen, Kultur und Organisation. Es braucht neue Formen der Zusammenarbeit, interdisziplinäre Teams – und eine digitale Strategie, die im Alltag ankommt. Für Engineering-Unternehmen wie GEA spielt KI sowohl extern im Lösungsangebot für Kunden wie auch in der internen Anwendung zur Steigerung der Prozesseffizienz eine zentrale Rolle. Konkret heißt das: KI wird Teil der GEA-Produkte und -Services und liefert echte Effizienzgewinne. In energieintensiven Prozessen wie der Milchpulverproduktion senken KI-gestützte Systeme beispielsweise den Energieverbrauch messbar und werden von Kunden zunehmend erwartet. Und intern investieren wir gezielt in den Aufbau von KI-Kompetenzen – mit dem Ziel, einen Großteil der Belegschaft zu aktiven Nutzern zu machen und Mitarbeitende zu befähigen, eigene Anwendungen zu entwickeln.
