[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:Pallas PS.jpg. I notice it currently doesn't have an image copyright tag. Could you add one to let us know its copyright status? (You can use {{gfdl}} if you release it under the GFDL, or {{fairuse}} if you claim fair use, etc.) If you don't know what any of this means, just let me know where you got the images and I'll tag them for you. I would have been able to get what you wanted a month ago but not now. For more than 25 years I taught a biostatistics course for the Dept. of Psychiatry, and by virtue of that appointment had access to all CU's libraries. I took advantage of the library card too. Like Walter Alston of the Dodgers, I had a series of one-year contracts. But alas, I was not renewed on July 1. My library card is no longer operative. I wish I could have helped you.
If you or someone you know knows a Columbia student, that student can have access to the document, and transmit a copy to you. You probably know someone who knows someone who knows someone who is either a student or faculty member at Columbia. I imagine that by the time I have written to you, you will have solved your problem of access. Best wishes. Let me know if you succeeded.Iss246 (talk) 12:27, 29 July 2010 (UTC)

[edit]Thank for the message on my talk page. Yes, it is still open as far as I'm concerned although user:Edison was the primary objector to the article's statements on Jedlik. I see the section has acquired a new reference from Nature 53 1896 since I last looked. However, the insertion is from a now blocked user who was placing a lot of dubious Hungarian related material on Wikipedia. Are you able to obtain a copy of the Nature article? We need to verify that it does contain an article on Jedlik, and if so, that it supports the claim made. SpinningSpark 06:33, 17 August 2010 (UTC)

University of Manchester query
[edit]Hi, apologies about the delay - been busy in the past week. I do live in Manchester but I'm not a student at the University of Manchester. Although I'm a college student at a college in Manchester - the problem is that local students (from Greater Manchester colleges) are only allowed to just visit the library for reference (not borrow books). And even then, you have to sign up for access pass, which I am told is an unnecessary long winded process by my college librarian. Resource request
[edit]Hi. I found your listing at WP:REX and I'm hoping you can help me. I need a very specific piece of information (and, ideally, a quote and page number) from this book:
- Strieder, Peter (2012). Dürer. Langewiesche K.R. ISBN 978-3784591421.
In previous editions of the book (in the 1970s and 1980s), Strieder did not accept Lotte Brand Philip's identification of a picture at the Germanisches Nationalmuseum as being Durer's portrait of his mother and therefore part of a diptych of his parents (see the wikilinked article for background). I need to confirm whether Strieder maintains the same position in the 2012 edition of the book—but it has only been released in German, so it's not very easy to find in the US.
I noticed that WP:REX has a link to de:WP:BIBA; would that be a good place to start? Any advice would be welcome. Maralia (talk) 20:13, 23 October 2013 (UTC)
- Thanks for ordering the book to help me with this—I just couldn't get my hands on it over here in the US. A few notes that may help you find the right passage:
- The information I'm looking for would likely be in a chapter about Dürer's earliest work; he painted these in 1490, when he was 19, and they are his earliest surviving paintings.
- You can see the portraits here: Portrait Diptych of Dürer's Parents.
- Strieder's opinion on this is important because in addition to being a Dürer expert, he was for 25 years the head curator of paintings at GNM (which holds the mother's portrait). Thanks again for looking into this for me. Maralia (talk) 15:10, 18 November 2013 (UTC)
- Thank you so very much for the quotes! I get the meaning of them, but I would also appreciate a translation to make sure I've not misread anything. Really appreciate your help, and excellent timing: I am working on the article right now. Maralia (talk) 18:39, 8 December 2013 (UTC)

We've included a retrospective on the changes and progress TWL has seen over the last year, the results of the survey TWL participants completed in December, some of our plans for the future, a second interview with a Wiki Love Libraries coordinator, and more. Here's to 2014 being a year of expansion and innovation for TWL!
The Wikipedia Library completed the first 6 months of its Individual Engagement grant last week. Here's where we are and what we've done:
- Increased access to sources: 1500 editors signed up for 3700 free accounts, individually worth over $500,000, with usage increases of 400-600%
- Deep networking: Built relationships with Credo, HighBeam, Questia, JSTOR, Cochrane, LexisNexis, EBSCO, New York Times, and OCLC
- New pilot projects: Started the Wikipedia Visiting Scholar project to empower university-affiliated Wikipedia researchers
- Developed community: Created portal connecting 250 newsletter recipients, 30 library members, 3 volunteer coordinators, and 2 part-time contractors
- Tech scoped: Spec'd out a reference tool for linking to full-text sources and established a basis for OAuth integration
- Broad outreach: Wrote a feature article for Library Journal's The Digital Shift; presenting at the American Library Association annual meeting

[edit]I am afraid it has been sitting in my Sandkiste for a long time. If that were en:wiki I would have opened a sandbox on the article- transferred it over then invited other users to correct it. My written German is not strong enough to do a full copyedit but the facts are fine and referenced. So I have done the next best thing I have copied over the text- and added it in comment brackets on the article page. If you have time- please do use it to replace the stub. -- Clem Rutter (talk) 17:12, 9 May 2015 (UTC)

[edit]Hello there.
I see that you offered your help with this request on the resource exchange. I was wondering which pages you could help the requester with.
The reason why I'm asking is that I can access all of the requested materials except for The History of the Duke of Cornwall's Light Infantry, 1939-45. However, it would require me to go to the library and scan the pages.
Please let me know which ones you can do, and I can cover the other ones except for Duke of Cornwall's Light Infantry. Thanks. --MrLinkinPark333 (talk) 20:25, 25 July 2016 (UTC)
- @MrLinkinPark333: yes, you are right. The only possible thing is to go to the library and to scan the pages, even for me too. Often it's not possible to get the materials by online access. But there are many libraries here, who could help to receive the article. But it takes a little more time than usual. If you want to fetch the materials or if I fetch the materials, it's both the same. Doc Taxon (talk) 07:00, 26 July 2016 (UTC)
- @Doc Taxon: We could divide up the sources. I can't access Duke of Cornwall's Light Infantry. If you could access that one, that would be great. --MrLinkinPark333 (talk) 19:28, 26 July 2016 (UTC)
- yes, it'll be okay. Thank you, Doc Taxon (talk) 20:13, 26 July 2016 (UTC)

Maybe make sure you know the rules before you start telling everyone else what to do
[edit]Regarding both your edits at Wikipedia:Requests for page importation and at User talk:Bay Staatsoper, you are basically barging in and telling well-informed people who gave correct answers that they are wrong and you are right and the matter is closed. I don't know if this person is a friend of yours, or you just decided to act as their proxy here for some other reason, but it comes across and imperious and dismissive, while also being incorrect on it's face because you clearly haven't taken the time to be sure you understand how these processes work here, now, on this project. Your OTRS evidence is not only irelevant but actully supports the reasons for issuing block, so making notifications about it won't change well-established policies like WP:ORGNAME and WP:ROLE, both of which I had already referenced and explained what the problem was, twice, before you came along and insisted you'd fixed everything when you haven't at all.
In short, you may think you are doing this person a favor but you are actually just muddying the waters. It's important that they understand these rules if they want to edit here, and they need to make their own request to be unblocked. Beeblebrox (talk) 23:56, 15 December 2019 (UTC)
- @Beeblebrox: Please make sure that I am not a friend of this user. I don't know him. I checked the policies you stated above and now I understand. Sorry for the problems. Please note that I'm right because of the request of page importation because the contents of CC licenses are all the same in every Wikipedia project. It also belongs to the threshold of originality. user:Graham87 was right with his statement, I copied the article in the workspace of this user, who also is editor of the article in German wikipedia. Kind regards, Doc Taxon (talk) 00:05, 16 December 2019 (UTC)
- Doc Taxon, you may like to avoid expressions such as "Please note that I'm right", because there is a possibility that some people may see it as arrogant and imperious. You may find it goes down better to say something such as "I believe that I was right", even if you are in fact absolutely certain in your own mind that you are right. I see that you refer to the relevant Creative Commons licenses (though not the GFDL). Presumably therefore you are aware of the requirement for attribution, which is missing from the copy you have made. Since you are so certain that you are right that you can dismiss Beeblebrox's concerns so forcefully as you have done, you may like to explain what mistake I have made in thinking that the lack of attribution makes the copy a copyright violation, so that I don't make the mistake of deleting it. Or perhaps you could admit that you are wrong, and put your mistake right. (You may also like to re-read the heading of this talk page section.) JBW (talk) Formerly JamesBWatson 21:49, 19 December 2019 (UTC)
- @JBW: I try to explain: first "Please note that I'm right" has been come from my not so good English speaking. I'm sorry if the words have been chosen wrong.
- next: Creative Commons license, attribution BY:
- if the author of the text and the translator (or the copying person) of the text are the same person, we don't need to identify the author in the translation's revision history once more. (This is also valid, if there are two different account names of this one author.) The following revisions of the German article done by other persons are so very minor, that they are not within the threshold of originality. So in this case there is no need of an importation of the revisions of this article. Doc Taxon (talk) 10:51, 20 December 2019 (UTC)
- So are you saying that Anna (Bay Staatsoper) is another account of yours? JBW (talk) Formerly JamesBWatson 12:40, 20 December 2019 (UTC)
- No, but I acted on the behalf of this account, as intermediary. Doc Taxon (talk) 13:09, 20 December 2019 (UTC)

JBW (talk) Formerly JamesBWatson 21:49, 19 December 2019 (UTC)
And your "help" in this matter has been uniformly unhelpful. Why you again crated the userpage I previously deleted, I can't imagine, except that you once again wanted to show how very right you are. There's no reason for it. Nobody, at any point in this entire affair, has expressed doubt that this account isn't exactly who they say they are, so offering your proof again and again is just meaningless noise. Since you seem determined to keep un-helping in this manner, I have opened a thread about your recent behavior here. Beeblebrox (talk) 18:51, 20 December 2019 (UTC)
- Well, I give up. I drew your attention to your failure to attribute the work you copied, to give you a chance to correct your mistake. It really didn't occur to me that you might not take up that chance, but you didn't; instead you quoted at me a passage which included "if the author of the text and ... the copying person ... are the same person" and "This is also valid, if there are two different account names of this one author" (my emphasis). I was at first somewhat taken aback by your apparent inability to see that the passage you yourself had quoted in defence of your own action actually explained why your action was wrong. There seemed to me to be only one possible rational explanation, and that one seemed extremely unlikely: that the two accounts were in fact both yours. I therefore asked you about that, for two reasons. Firstly, if the accounts actually were both you, you could explain that they were. Secondly if (as seemed much more likely) they weren't both you, but you had somehow failed to notice those words in the passage you quoted, then mentioning it would draw the matter to your attention, and you could deal with your mistake. You appear, however, to have still failed to understand that what you had quoted applied only if the person who did the copying was the same person who had written the material in the first case. Previous things you had said gave the impression that you have significant difficulties understanding what is said to you and what you are doing, but this shows the difficulties are more severe than I realised. I don't think there is any point in further attempts to help you.
- To remove any doubt, none of what I have said about difficulty in understanding relates to English not being your native language. The failures to understand are at a completely different level. JBW (talk) Formerly JamesBWatson 22:04, 21 December 2019 (UTC)
Speedy deletion nomination of Category:Soviet professional wrestlers
[edit]A tag has been placed on Category:Soviet professional wrestlers requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section C1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the category has been empty for seven days or more and is not a disambiguation category, a category redirect, a featured topics category, under discussion at Categories for discussion, or a project category that by its nature may become empty on occasion.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Liz Read! Just as a note
[edit]The precedent and current consensus is that government/official documentation such as the one you used to source a date of birth should not be used. This is for two reasons: first, there is no indication that the person in the document is the same person in the article. Second, documents such as these often contain very personal information such as a home address, phone number, etc. which (unless widely disseminated and/or easily found online) constitutes a violation of WP:OSPOL #1.
Including a DOB is often a very controversial move on BLPs, mainly due to the (sometimes unwritten) rules about proper sourcing, so I just wanted to let you know a bit more about why I removed what you felt was appropriate information. Primefac (talk) 10:51, 2 May 2021 (UTC)

[edit]Hi Doc, it's been a while since you fulfilled my resource request for Deutschlands Generale und Admirale about Konrad Haase. I wanted to ask if you might know about the image permissions for the book. Is there an appendix somewhere that lists the image sources? Ways to improve Torsten Haß
[edit]Hello, Doc Taxon,
Thank you for creating Torsten Haß.
I have tagged the page as having some issues to fix, as a part of our page curation process and note that:
Thanks for the page! This was previously deleted at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Torsten Haß. Currently, almost all refs are still retrieved from September 2021, has additional refs emerged allowing WP:GNG, WP:NAUTHOR, or other criteria of WP:NBIO to be passed? Thanks.
The tags can be removed by you or another editor once the issues they mention are addressed. If you have questions, leave a comment here and begin it with {{Re|VickKiang}}

- Most of the refs are
Bibliographic records
(non-SIGCOV) or non-independent reviews by Torsten himself. Other refs, e.g., 1, appear also to be trivial mentions (e.g., the one here is a staff listing). I would appreciate if you could list two or three of the best references not previously listed or discussed in the AfD (where the community found consensus that those sources were inadequate) showing a meeting of WP:GNG or WP:BASIC, or alternatively if other criteria of WP:NBIO is met, for instance, demonstrating that one of Torsten's books received multiple independent reliable in-depth reviews. Speedy deletion nomination of Torsten Haß
[edit]If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.
You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
A tag has been placed on Torsten Haß requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G4 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to be a repost of material that was previously deleted following a deletion discussion, at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Torsten Haß. When a page has substantially identical content to that of a page deleted after a discussion, and any changes in the content do not address the reasons for which the material was previously deleted, it may be deleted at any time.
If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here. Another Publishers Weekly archive request
[edit]Hi Doc, rather than clutter up RX again, I thought I would go straight to the source for the PW review of an earlier book by the same author:
- Whalon, Mark (1933). Rural Peace. Rutland, Vermont: Tuttle Company. OCLC 6641494
GoogleBooks snippet view is rather confusing, and shows mentions of the book on at least two pages (615 and 617) of PW Volume 124, which it lists as 1934 [2], [3]. This is odd, since local newspaper reviews of the book came out in June and July of 1933, so I suspect there actually may be a review in PW in Q3 or Q4 of 1933, and that the 1934 snippets are just GoogleBooks' stingy way of denying us the real thing.
Anyway, if you have time to check this, that would be great!

[edit]@Doc Taxon Hi dear Doc!
Now that we are on September can you check the article for Tirana, the capital of Albania, which WikiBayer moved it to your user page on Pälzisch Wiki: https://pfl.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Middawaida:Doc Taxon/Tirane , if is correct than make it an article and add it to Wikidata? Please create also a page for Albania as a country in general with short content, infobox, photos, references, external links and categories. In the case you aren't very fluent to the Palatine German language, you may request the article for Albania to be created and the article for Tirana to be fixed to one of these fluent Palatine German speakers which edit Pälzisch Wiki frequently:
Thanks 141.98.143.64 (talk) 10:05, 11 September 2024 (UTC)

- What is the reason of your so very impatient pressing? – Doc Taxon • Talk • 09:38, 17 September 2024 (UTC)
- @Doc Taxon Because I have created these articles before on the Palatine German Wiki and added them to Wikidata but they were deleted more than one time due to the machine translation, so I am waiting so much to see them again on this Wiki, to be correct. Now that you finished the draft for Tirana please make it an article and start the draft for Albania and also when you will finish it make the draft an article too. I will not ask you for other articles to be created. But I wanted just these two articles to be on this Wiki, like there are articles for Albania and Tirana on German Wiki, Alemannic Wiki, Bavarian Wiki, Low German Wiki, North Frisian Wiki, Pennsylvania German Wiki, Luxembourgish Wiki (which Luxembourgish is spoken also in Germany) and Gothic Wiki. Only on the Palatine German Wiki these articles were missing. Thanks for understanding me. 141.98.141.14 (talk) 10:15, 17 September 2024 (UTC)
- But you need not to remember me every day, I will not forget it. The article Tirana needs some references and similar, then it's completed. Please tell me, what a machine translation did you use? – Doc Taxon • Talk • 15:13, 17 September 2024 (UTC)
- @Doc Taxon I used https://www.linguee.com/english-german/translation/rhineland+palatine.html which some words can be translated there from English to Palatine German. I used word by word translation, so the translated content wasn't correct 141.98.141.14 (talk) 15:48, 17 September 2024 (UTC)
